Navigating the Lower Saint Lawrence in the 19th Century.

      On Wednesday the 5th February next, at the subscriber's auction room, for account and benefit of the underwriters and others concerned, at one o'clock:
    The fine and strong built brigantine, the Earl Marchmont of Whitby, William Hill, master, of about 217 tons register measurement, as she now lies, or did lie, wrecked on the west end of Basque Island, in the River St. Lawrence, with all her masts, yards, standing and running rigging, sails, cables, anchors and other materials - inventory of which will be exhibited at the time of sale.
    Also the cargo on board said brig, consisting of 36 pieces of oak timber, 105 pieces pine timber, 78 masts and spars, 471 deals, 1170 pieces staves and heading, 48 pairs ash oars, 82 boat hook handles and 7 cords lath wood.
    Every information regarding the situation of the said vessel and cargo shall be given, by applying to Captain Hill, at Messrs. John Coltman & Co. counting house.

 From Lloyd's list, November 22. 
      The ship Packet, Pedrick, from St. Petersburg for Marblehead, was fallen in with on the 28th of October, by the Cumberland, from Quebec, in a very distressed situation, and the crew taken off. - Arrived off Torbay, Eweretta, Patterson, Quebec. - Deal, Rose, Carter, Quebec. - Clyde, Little Belt, Wilson, Quebec.

      On Friday next, the 20th instant, at the Neptune Inn, lower town, for account of the underwriters or others concerned, at 12 o'clock precisely:
    The hull of the snow Providence, Henry Gateshill, master, of 284 57/94 tons registers measurement, with her lower masts, and standing rigging, as she now lays or did lay stranded in Saint Anne's Bay.
    Also, all her running rigging, sails, stores and materials, of which an inventory is taken, and may be seen at the subscriber's counting house, the day previous to the sale. After which, the cargo of said vessel, consisting of:
 
  74  pieces oak timber,  
  142  pieces red pine timber,  
  30  red pine spars,  
  2  white pine hand masts,  
  152  pieces lath wood,  
  4231  pieces staves,  
  42  deals, and 589 ash oars.  
      Any information respecting the above vessel, may be had by applying to Captain Gateshill, at the Union Hotel.
