The King, vs. Divers Droits of Admiralty. |
Whereas a petition was on the 16th day of November last presented to this Court, by Edward Bowen, Esquire, on behalf of His Majesty, setting forth, that sundry puncheons of rum and other goods, wares and merchandizes had been seen floating on the River Saint Lawrence, or were laying on the |
banks thereof, within the
flux and reflux of the tide, and that the said puncheons of rum,
were derelict, and praying that a warrant and monition might issue
from this Court to seize and secure the same for His Majesty's
interest, the said goods being Droits of the King in his Office of
Admiralty. And whereas a warrant and monition did issue accordingly, and the Marshal of this Court, in pursuance of the authority given to him at or near Rimouski within the maritime parts of this Province, did seize and attach certain goods, there being (as it is said) flotsam, jetsam, lagan and derelict, to wit: |

Laying at Rimouski, | ||
13 puncheons of rum, an ullage puncheon about 50 gallons, one hogshead,
one tierce and one barrel of spirits of turpentine. One ullage hogshead, about 15 gallons Spanish wine. Two ullages barrels of oil. Four barrels rosin. One keg of butter. |

At Little Mitis, - to wit: | ||
One tierce salt peter. Two barrels of tar. One hogshead spirits of turpentine. One ullage hogshead, containing 6 gallons of spirits of turpentine. Fourteen barrels of rosin. |

At Grand Mitis. | ||
A trunk containing wearing apparel. And did also seize and attach sundry other articles, being wreck of the sea, at .............within the maritime parts of this Province, to wit: |

One 7 inch cable, 39 fathoms. One anchor, about 4 cwt. One ditto, about 3˝ cwt. A piece of an old mainsail. Some pieces of light sails. Sundry blocks, shrouds, and running rigging which, appeared to have been the apparel of a schooner of about 60 tons at Trois Pistoles. Now this is to give notice, that all persons who may have any right, title, or interest to all or any part of the said fourteen puncheons of rum and other goods and articles above enumerated, are hereby ordered to file their claims to the same at the registry of this Court, as early as possible, that justice may be done in the premises. |
