dispatches and intelligent of Captain Ruel's misfortune. Two gentlemen, Messrs.
Wadsworth, of Montreal, and Winters, of the Royal Newfoundland
Regiment, remained on board. One soldier, in the hold, met with
a most providential escape. The cables and two or three
puncheons rolled over him; in which critical situation he
remained, until the brig righted. The whole, in fine, may be
considered a miraculous deliverance. Captain Ruel's behaviour
was perfectly collected and his conduct that of a man of
fortitude, both in the moment of peril and since.
We are indebted to Messrs. Riley and Christie, the passengers,
for the above detail. |

Last week put back the brig Cyrus. She sailed from this place
with a cargo of lumber and potash, and ran ashore at Portneuf,
below Bic; where she was obliged to throw half her potash
overboard. The remainder is of little value. |
