MCNARY M. HOFFA McNary M. Hoffa, 87, of Center Point, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at 8:40 p.m. in St. Vincent Clay Hospital. He was born April 19, 1916, in Bowling Green, the son of Clifford and Delores Frump Hoffa. He graduated from Bowling Green High School, where he excelled in basketball. He held a scoring title in the Wabash Valley Tourney (33 points). On Sept. 16, 1939, he married Dorothy Woosley Hoffa; she survives. They enjoyed spending winters in Florida. He was the owner/operator of Hoffa Farm and Home Supply in Center Point from 1944-1970. After selling the hardware store, he later worked for Brazil Coal & Clay, retiring in 1978. As a young man, he enjoyed coon hunting with his redbone hounds and won many shows. He taught his children and friends how to water ski at Cataract Lake. He was one of the founders of the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department; their annual fish fry was held next to his home. He was a fan of Cubs baseball and Purdue basketball. He is also survived by one son, Gerry Hoffa and his wife Julia of Center Point; five daughters, Nancy Hoffa of Gary, Ind., Helen Hoffa of Center Point, Ann Schepper and husband Gary of Bloomington, Bette Hoffa of Greenwood and Mary Lou Hoffa of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Eurtis Staley and husband Gilbert of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter in infancy. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green, with Pastor Ted Schory officiating. Orman, 64, of Versailles, died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at his residence. Born at Clay City on Jan. 21, 1940, he was the son of Martin and Mary Staley Orman. He graduated in 1958 from Clay City High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from Purdue University in 1962 in Agriculture Economics and his Masters Degree from Purdue in 1966 in Agriculture Education. He was general manager of the Ripley County Farm Bureau 1971-1996 and worked for Purdue University as a County Extension Director and educator in Clay and Franklin counties. He also was a sponsor for the Hassmer Hilltoppers 4-H Club in Versailles, a member of the Versailles Lion's Club since 1972, a member of the Clay City Church of Christ and had formerly served on the Ripley County Fair Board and the South Ripley School Board. He bred and raised Shorthorn cattle and was a member of the Indiana and American Shorthorn associations. He married Margaret Ruch on June 20, 1962; she survives. During the Korean War, after spending two years at Indiana University in Bloomington, Frump taught soldiers how to use flamethrowers. He also spent two tours overseas during the Vietnam War working in administration. Frump died Thursday at Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veteran's Hospital after a brief illness. He was 62. Born in De Valls Bluff, Ark., Frump moved to Clay City, Ind., as child. He graduated from high school there. Frump then joined the Army and was sent to Germany. After 18 months, Frump left active duty and continued his education, according to his wife, Jo Ann Frump of San Antonio. He studied chemistry at Indiana University for two years before returning to active duty in 1950. He remained in the Army after the Korean War and was stationed in Turkey as part of a military adviser group. He was last stationed at Fort Sam Houston. He left the military in 1977 with the rank of master sergeant. His favorite hobby was horseshoe throwing, and he was an active member of the Lakeside Horseshoe Club, his brother Clyde Frump of Clinton, Iowa, said. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8541. "He had a lot of friends wherever he went," his brother said. "He was a very intelligent and friendly person."
