DeMolay Chapter News
Work is under way to revitalize Jerome R. Gorin Chaperon DeMolay at the Decatur Masonic Temple. In order to make this happen we need your help in three areas:
1: Members. We need at least fifteen young men between the ages of 12 and 21 to get this project off the ground. They do not have to have a Masonic affiliation. Anyone from any faith is welcome. Meetings are held twice a month at the Temple, with a day to be determined that will best accommodate the members and advisors. The chapter has met on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 7:00 PM.
2: Adult Advisors. We need at least seven (7) adults willing to serve as Advisors for the group. Advisors will have to submit and application and fill out a back ground check as a safety precaution for both themselves and the boys. They will also have to take a one day training course, which will probably be offered at the Temple. You will be asked to attend meetings when possible and provide transportation and chaperone service for outings. Other than Chairman of the Advisory and Chapter Dad, an advisor need not be a Mason. This may also help to encourage participation from parents as fathers can be advisors without being Masons.
3: Activity support and ideas. We will need to come up with ideas for activities, so that the members have something to look forward to besides meetings. Service projects, fund raisers, outings, dances with supervision, participation in Parades and like activities are just some f the possibilities.
We will be holding an organizational meeting with refreshments and information at the Temple later this fall. Please talk to your sons, grandsons, nephews, neighborhood boys and Lodge Brothers or other men who you think would be willing to help establish this chapter. This can become a member generator for the Masonic Fraternity.
Most Worshipful Brother James E. Durbin is the new State Executive Officer for Illinois DeMolay and he is willing to help us with this project. Brethren, opportunity pounds hard at the door. Are you willing to open it and invite him in? If you think you can help in any way or know of potential members, call the Temple office at 422-1217 and give us names and addresses. We will then be able to follow up and make this a success. Jerome R. Gorin Chapter is a chapter with a proud history and we would be remiss in our duties to the youth of the generations past, present and future to let it go by the wayside and be forgotten.
