WELCOME
TO MY ADOPTION STORY
Hello!... My name is
Glen. I was born august 14th 1954 , in Boston Ma. I spent the first 4 months
of my young life in a very caring foster home in
Braintree. My story was clouded in mystery for years and years , although
I was always told I was adopted , and that they wanted me , I always had
a void in my phsyche, a place I knew could be filled, if only I could find
my Bmom. I asked my adopted parents many times as a youngster if they knew
who my BirthMom was. They always told me that they had some info, but not
much and I supposed that the agency would tell me when I turned 18. Well,
as you may know if you are an adoptee, this was pure fabrication, the agency
denied any knowledge of me or my situation!...
The years went by and
every so often I would wonder to myself about the whole thing. I would
call the agency and ask again what could be done to find my bmom.. they
always said that they didn't know what i was talking about , even tho I
had a piece of non ID that my A-father had given me when he died . ONe
day I hitchhiked from Vermont to Boston and presented myself to the frojnt
desk and showed the secretary my Non-ID....
She said "Yes, obviously , you are and adoptee from this agency, but I
am sorry , We can't tell you anything.
This was a blow beyond
reasoning! Why should I , a voting member of this nation , Have to be kept
in the dark as to my parentage and birth right . I had no idea whether
or not I even had some deadly hereditary desease!
The big break came
when my oldest son told me I had to get online to try and search .. he
was a few years in conmvinciong me to do it. Finally in September '96 ,
I bought a used 486dx2, it was sufficient but slow!.. LOL... I used metacrawler
to search the word "adoption" on the web, and the first place I found was
WBS adult adoptee room. It was the best!!
Everyone was soooo nice and helpfull. This is a must if you are searching!
All you do is click on the wbs logo and it will take you to the homepages
, make up a nickname and pass word and join ! that simple .. then go to
communities/support/adultadoptee
So there i was in the
Adult Adoptee room , finding out all this stuff on how to search.I started
registering in every reunion registry I could find!.. I looked at over
10,000 posts I am sure and registered in over a hundred registries. If
you click on registries it will take you to
my page of links.. I will keep updating it so check back once in a while!
On December 17th 1996
I found a post that sounded very close.. the right month, year and place
of birth! It also had my birth name and hospital.. which I didn't know.I
sent an Email that second to the addy on the post.. it was a state org
so I wondered.. *s*
I didn't hear back
at all that day.. so I went to the Adult Adoptees room and asked what I
should do.. They all agreed that I should wait for 1 week and repost..
I was Out OF mY mind!!!
I made it a whole 4
days before reposting .. LOL.. when I did I got a response almost immediately!!!It
was My birth sister, tho she wasn't real sure at first.. I gave her a bunch
of info off my non-id and she got right back to me that we should talk
on the phone.. I gave her my number and she called almost immediately!..
She was my sister,
no question in my mind!!She had the same laugh and the same silly sense
of humor! LOL.. we got along great.
She called my b-mom
that evening and we spent the next 3 days comparing notes and talking about
our adopted lives. on the wednesday following we inundated the agency
with our info and demanded to know whether it was true !.. they called
us the very same evening and confirmed!!!!
I got to meet my Bmom
on dec 23rd.. the same day which I was formally adopted!!It was an extremely
exhilarating experience! She and I see eachn other pretty regularly now
and talk on the phone all the time. She is a whole person now that she
has both my sister and I.
I want to mention here
that my whole Adopted Family was most supportive in my search and without
thier support I would not have proceeded, I love them all !!!
So, don't ever give
up, they are out there looking for you too!
