citizen honoured with Vietnamese medal Zenon
Kowal, Head of the Walloon-Bruxelles Delegation in Viet Nam, was presented
with the Vietnamese Medal for the Cause of Education. The distinction
was made in honour of Zenon's contributions to Viet Nam's education and
training service in the past four years. He contributed to the signing of a
cooperation agreement between the Association for the Promotion of Education
and Training abroad (APEFE) and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and
Training on November 2 of 2002. He has helped carry out 21 education and
training-related projects, including those on the organisation of bilingual
classes, a cooperation project between the Ha Noi University of Foreign
Studies and the Mons-Hainaut, a project on business administration training

Cuban
engineers honoured with medals The
Ministry of Transport and Communications presented Medals for the Cause
of Viet Nam's Transport to 35 Cuban engineers, who had participated in
the construction of Ho Chi Minh Highway. The Cuban engineers were awarded
for their creative labour and cooperation, which contributed to
strengthening the friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
Despite difficult terrain and severe weather hampering their working
conditions, they have fulfilled their tasks as consultants and supervisors
for the construction of more than 1,200 km of the highway (in the first
phase) over the past four years. The highway has been built along the Ho Chi

German Expert Awarded Medal Hartmut Richard Gast, an expert from a German international development foundation (ZEL/DES/INWEnt) was awarded Vietnam's medal "For the Cause of Agriculture and Rural Development". Gast was director of the Vietnam-Germany co-operation programme on management of water, forest and land in Vietnam, which has been being carried out successfully since 1997. Nun receives Hero of Labour State honour A nun, who has devoted her life to caring for leprosy patients at Di Linh Leprosy Camp, has been awarded the Hero of Labour State honour for her great contributions to the fight against the contagious disease and rehabilitating patients. The 65-year-old nun Mai Thi Mau, Chief of the Di Linh Leprosy Camp in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, was awarded the honour on the occasion of Viet Nam Physicians' Day on Feb. 27. She has served at the camp, regarded as the oldest leprosy village in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam, for 38 years. In 2001, nun Mau and the camp were also awarded the Labour Order, third class, by the State President. Empowered by President Host Koehler, German Ambassador to Viet Nam Weber Lortsch presented the medal to Cap, who is now Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, at a ceremony in Ha Noi on May 3. During his ambassadorial term of office in Germany from 1994-1997, Cap made great contributions to building and strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
