Information that has survived from the Great Survey of Tellus 5000 years ago. The original report was 800 pages, of which only a tiny remnant survives.
The main continent of Tellus, it dominates most of the world, and was the focus of the Great Survey.
The Central and Western 2/3 of the Oerik continent are dominated by various centaur races descended from an ancient accursed human nation known as the Baklune or Bakluniz. These folk also inhabit the northwest Flanaess. Because these savages dominate so much of the land surface of the world, our survey has nicknamed this world as the Centaur World. We found this part of the world lacked potential for exploitation, although the various centaur races possessed potential as slaves.
The Flanaess covers about 1/3 of the continent of Oerik. It holds the greatest potential for exploitation. The original inhabitants of The Flanaess were the Ur-Flahannae, believed to be the ancestral of the modern Fla'an peoples. Many lost treasures and forgotten cities were created by these people, indeed it is suspected they at one time possessed a vast sophisticated and highly magical culture. Indeed similar ruins in the Yatil, Clatspur, Griff and Raker mountains suggest a common origin and purpose, a civilization based on magical transportation and almost unimaginable resources. Who or what overcame the Ur-Flahannae is unknown.
Whatever the truth, by the time of the Aeride invasion (see below) the aboriginal humans of the Flanaess possessed no higher lore and lived as simple tribesmen or nomads. Who or what the relationship was between the Ur-Flahannae and the modern Flan people remains a mystery.
Some 2000 years ago, a group of humans known as the Aeride or Aerd invaded the Flaeness from the west. These Aeride were a people who fled the wars between the Suel Imperium and the Empire of the Baklune. They were aligned with neither the Baklune nor Suel peoples, but sought instead to escape the steadily escalating wars between the two empires. When the Suel Imperium and Baklune Empires at last annihilated each other in the Rain of Colorless Flame and the Invoked Devastation, the Aeride had already departed central Oerik, and begun their long conquest to the east.
In the area of the Flanaess around the Yatil Mountains, the Aeride ran into the Flan of The Analain. The Aerde quickly conquered The Analain,The Nyrond, and then the Anadain (which they renamed Aerdy, and then The Ahlissain. In most parts of the continent the Aeride had conquered quickly and fully; around the Rakers the results were very different. Despite being driven from some lowland territories, the Flan continued to dominate the peninsula of Thule beyond the borders of the Griff Mts. and the Rakers. The Fla'an remained fairly pureblood in those parts and have come to be known as the Kemer. Over 7' tall and fair with red or blond hair, these folk are savage sea-faring raiders.
The Other Fla'an known as the Analayans are tribal peoples who dwell in the northeastern portion of the Analain: The the lands from the Rift Canyon in the South, to the Fellreev Forest in the West and North, and the Gruff Mts and Rakers in the East. They are not as tall as the Kemer, and somewhat darker having some Aerd blood. These lands are known as the Artonsamayne, Tenh and Rael.
The Great Kingdom: Most of the Flanaess is dominated by a vast empire known as the Great Kingdom. . The Aerdi had settled down centuries before and forged a kingdom. Centuries passed and the Kingdom of the Aerdi had become an Empire. The Empire grew, conquering almost all the continent. Currently the Great Kingdom has shrunk to a small fraction of its former domain.
The lands around the Solnor and Shipwreck Seas were ruled in former times by the Empire of Melnibone. The Southern Aerd ruled over Suel Helots for over 1000 years before a great revolt some 1000 years ago ended the dominion of the Southern Aerd. Currently this area is fragmented into petty savage feudal domains.
