Lesson Plan ReportINTRODUCTIONTraditional medicine in Ghana has been positively practiced for curative, preventive and negatively for vengeful or mischievous purposes. It is called “traditional” because unlike western medical science, its methods have been characterized by practices of “trial science” and rituals, which have been handed down in certain families from generation to generation. In Ghana traditional medicines accepts that we become physically ill when any part of the body, be it the head, nose, finger becomes hurt or its state of being disrupted. Diagnosis for the application of traditional medicine acknowledges psychic illness that is when a person’s psychological balance is disturbed. Our traditional medical system accepts that spiritual illness can result in injuries to part or the whole of the physical body. It acknowledges of forces, not seen but which can have impact on us. This aspect of diagnosis and therapy in traditional medicine presents perhaps the greatest challenges to most medical science and practitioners in this country. It is known that though very necessary, few people use Art and Technology Integration. The project therefore seeks to create awareness and help promote Technology Integration in Art. The project is a student centered one, where they are grouped to use search engines and Encarta for information on art appreciation and give a summarized note on it. The summary the groups gave was good. The lesson started with an introduction using Power Point, which shows the various sub-topics and the necessary notes on the topic. The students were very happy with the new development and contributed to the lessons. Few students then talked on their findings on the Internet on what other people’s views about the relationship between art and traditional medicine. The diagnosis, related rituals and therapy. Students then debated on some of their finding in class. This centered on the advantages and disadvantages of traditional medicine on peoples health. The students were taken to the computer laboratory were three students were assigned to the computer to use the Encyclopedia Encarta to search for further information on the topic. Each group leaders in the group searched for information whiles others jotted down notes. The notes were then put into essay form using the MS word to type and save onto diskettes. Students were instructed to summarize their work on template in Power Point for final presentation. Most of them however succeeded in creating files for their presentation after the initial difficulties SUCCESSES AND CHALLENGESThe lesson was a success considering the challenges initially encountered and the final work that was presented. Students were successful in their search for information art appreciation. Students present diverse views on the topics and most of their ideas were good. Some students were able to do the Power Point but had a few problems. Only a few students were able to do the Power Point. In all, the main idea or aim of searching for information was achieved using the computer. Most students were able to present their work within the time frame. CLASSROOM ORGANIZATION AND LOGISTICSThe organizations scheme was followed but a few hitches showed the lesson down. This somehow suited the students. Questions were asked that made the lesson interesting.Student to computer ratio is three to one computer. But then not all students were able to finish their work due to time factor. In latter lessons, I hope to make use of only one programme at a time instead of the MS word and the Power Point. SUGGESTED CHANGESStudents could find information of effect of the application of traditional medicine and art on the Internet using previously obtained resources and on the Encarta at a different lesson time.Students could use acquired information in a teaching lesson rather than using part of the time for the search, in the class. Students could continue their lesson in separate lesson with the teacher, using student relevant previous knowledge, in order to have time for the use of the computer working and presenting work using the Power Point in class. I FEEDBACKStudents reaction to the use of the computer in teaching of Art was all happiness. They have agreed to use the computer laboratory as frequently as possible to be familiar with its operation. Some students have even suggested interestingly that all lessons should be taught with the computer. My country, Ghana’s government is interested in integrating computer in teaching and learning. The Head of my school has provided computer for teachers and students to facilitate smooth learning. The computer teacher responsible for the computer laboratory is so dynamic and supportive of teachers and students. Therefore, the zeal to work using the computer and Internet has become an obsession with everyone ASSESSMENTStudents were assessed by their ability in obtaining relevant resources from the Internet and the presentation of work.Students supplement the teachers’ notes and information without waiting for the teacher all the time. Students in effect learn and assimilated information effectively with the assistance of the computer
