The Track runs through meager vegetated sand dunes. |
The Cooper is most of the time a dry riverbed. When it rains hard in the tropic North (once every 10 years or so), the water drains into the Cooper and it becomes a raging monster 11 to 40 km wide. Sadley the flood doesn't last long. The water quickly looses itself in the inland desert. Only waterholes remind here and there. |

That's how the ground looks, only sand and little stones, not much feed for the animals. |

The story goes: 1930 a local farmer went with his first car up this hill. He had a flat tyre and packed rocks behind each wheel to prevent the car rolling back while he was changing the tyre. To his great surprise, the car startet to roll forwards up the hill. On this photo we were coming back, driving up the hill which looks like down. Take my word it was a real awesome feeling. |
