The Birdsville Track!

The Birdsville Track starts at Marree. We followed this track right up to
Mungerannie, a station 206 km away.
The Track runs through meager vegetated sand dunes.

"The Cooper".

The Cooper is most of the time a dry riverbed. When it rains hard in the tropic North (once every 10 years or so), the water drains into the Cooper and it becomes a raging monster 11 to 40 km wide. Sadley the flood doesn't last long. The water quickly looses itself in the inland desert. Only waterholes remind here and there.
We been very surprised to meet
up with a Touristbus in the middle
of nowhere, their tents were allready
pitshed, they wanted to see a stary
outback night.

Telecom Australia gave TV and Internet
to the Outback.

That's how the ground looks, only sand and little stones, not much feed for the animals.

Mungerannie!

A beer for our durst, before we hit the road again.
The water comes near boiling out of the earth. We would
have liked to go for a swim, but we found it to hot.
The animals are coming home for a drink.
Water from the artesien bore runs here
over the road.
All of a sudden it looked like rain, we had
to turn for home before they closed the roads.

We picked our caravan up...
...and turned south!

The Magnetic Hill!

The story goes: 1930 a local farmer went with his first car up this hill. He had a flat tyre and packed rocks behind each wheel to prevent the car rolling back while
he was changing the tyre. To his great surprise, the car startet to roll forwards up the hill.

On this photo we were coming back, driving up the hill which looks like down.
Take my word it was a real awesome feeling.

Pekina Creek Trail!

We wanted to see the 7000 year old Aboriginal-Carvings .(Last photo in the row.)

The Giant Red Gum!

This is the largest Red Gum in South Australiain
Its circumference is 11 metres and it is 500 years old and very healty.
