078. Where?


Sometimes Goldie Wilson wondered where he was going with his life.

When Hill Valley High had refused to acknowledge him coming top of the 11th Grade he had left the school in disgust. He knew that California was hardly the Promised Land, but he'd expected it to be better than the Southern state his grandparents had fled from during the Civil War. In many ways it was, but where was the accolades he deserved? Where was the fairness in life?

Goldie now worked at Lou's Cafe, which he found pretty ironic, Lou was considered to be one of the most racist people in town, but he had been the only one to give Goldie an interview! It was true that Lou was rather desperate, but it was pretty bad comment on the whole town. It obviously believed it was more tolerant than it was.

Goldie mopped the tables down waiting for the afternoon influx and hoping the kids would be polite today, the number of times he'd heard "Hey, blackie, I gotta an order!" despite everyone knowing his name...

Goldie wondered where he'd be 10 years from now? He'd had dreams, thinking of getting into the political side of things, but that seemed like such an impossible dream now.

The door to the cafe swung open and in spilled the kids from Hill Valley High, Lou glowered at the noise level, but it made no difference.

"Hi, Goldie," three girls said as they passed him, Goldie grinned back, well at least the kids were better then their folks.

"Hey, Goldie!" Lou shouted, "This ain't a bus stop, get movin'!"

Goldie rolled his eyes, but took his pad and pencil out to take orders.

He thought about what that kid had said a couple of days ago...about how one day Goldie would be mayor. He still didn't know if the kid was having him on, but either way"

Goldie had long been saying he'd be going to Night School, but deep down he hadn't been so sure about his success. But those words...being mayor of Hill Valley.

If Goldie was anywhere close to that in 10 years time, well...he'd be doing a better then he, or his Mama could have hoped.

And Goldie vowed that Mayor of Hill Valley was where he'd end up!
