040. Slackers

Monday was his favourite day of the week.

The school was still clean after Friday, the linoleum floors almost sparkling, the unauthorised notices and posters torn down from the walls and best of all, the depressed looks of the students crossing the lawn to the front doors, dragging their feet as if they could stop time.

Looking out a window from the second floor of the school and them, Stuart Strickland (Discipline) looked down his nose at them.

"Slackers," he muttered, "damn slackers, the lot of them."

Strickland was no stranger to slackers, he had encountered them ever since his own school days.

Graduating top of class throughout his entire school career (except for that one year...), he had considered going into law enforcement, like his Grandfather. It hadn't taken long though, for Strickland to realise a job so physical wasn't really up his alley.

What had turned out to be up his alley was the position of Vice Principal at Hill Valley High School.

Upon his arrival some five years ago, the place had been a shambles, the parents of these teens no doubt thought their kids were perfectly little angels, but Strickland knew better.

Lazy, sneaky, stupid slackers, the lot of them.

Two in particular annoyed Strickland - Biff Tannen, resident bully. It wasn't the bullying that bothered Strickland, he couldn't care less, it was the damn kid's complete lack of sense. If it was against the school rules, Tannen would do it, in front of witnesses and then act surprised when caught.

Someone ought to teach that idiot some subtlety.

The other slacker who annoyed him even more than Tannen was one George McFly. That kid was an example of slackerdom unparalleled in Strickland's career. He allowed himself to be pushed around by anyone, walked as if he was in some sort of dreamland and generally acted like an idiot.

Strickland knew full well that his position gave him the ability, if not put a stop too, then at least cut back on the amount of torment McFly suffered. But honestly, Strickland enjoyed seeing the kid get his ass handed to him. At least with Tannen there was the satisfaction of knowing he was hardly passing, having all ready been held back a grade. McFly despite living in a fantasy world was still doing average if not better in his classes. That sort of thing irritated Strickland no end. He had worked his ass off in school, pushed through every homework assignment and exampled, strived to be the best. The least everyone else could do was work their fingers to the bone as well.

Of course, if McFly ever did work to his full potential, Strickland was pretty sure he'd still dislike the kid, in fact he'd probably hate him more for it.

Looking out the window again and seeing McFly who had just chained up his bike being pushed over the bike rack to the ground, he smirked.

There was little chance of that slacker amounting to anything.
