The Gospel According to Larry. 4Q, 4P
-
I couldn't put this down. You follow Josh, a high school senior, as he begins assembling a website called The Gospel According to Larry, with "sermons" about pop culture, globalization, consumerism and everything under the sun. Larry becomes a worldwide sensation, and the race is on to find out the true identity of the anonymous philosopher. How can Josh keep his identity safe from the masses, and from his best friend Beth, who he happens to be in love with? It's thought provoking, thrilling, new and different from other novels and with a wide range of emotions and characters.
Fault Line. 5Q, 5P
- The setting is fresh, the jokes and comedy are great, and the characters are real and likeable. It also made me think about abuse in a way I never have before. I didn't have the understanding of the topic I have now, but this book has made me reconsider my views. I understand the motivations of both Kip and Becky. It was enriching, a joy to read and impossible to put down. I also had a long list of names and movies to look up on the internet (I now know who a lot of SNL comics are who I hadn't heard of before this).
