Protector Of The Small Quartet

This is third quartet set in the magical fantasy kingdom of Tortall by Tamora Pierce. I would recommend these books to anyone age 10 and up who likes fantasy, adventure and general fiction.

1. First Test

This new quartet tells the story of Kel; the first girl in 10 years to try and become a knight. However, the stuffy old fartbag Training Master Lord Wyldon forces Kel to go on probation for a year to see if she can keep up with the rest of the boy pages. Kel must try twice as hard as everyone else to succeed. When she's surrounded by sexism and prejudice Kel sets about showing everyone what she's made of, defending the weak, smashing everyone's perceptions about what girls can and can't do and protecting the small!

2. Page

Kel's second adventure. No one was more suprised than Kel herself when Lord Wyldon let her stay on as a second year page. She still has some jerks to contend with, but life is a bit easier for Kel this time around. With the newfound company of her flock of sparrows, a group of friends, an abused dog and a timid servant Kel will prove that she can pass the test and survive being a page.

3. Squire

Kel becomes squire to Sir Raoul of Malories Peak and Goldenlake, the knight commander of the King's Own. Her four years as a squire prove ot be tumultuous, difficult and rewarding. Kel's new master is a lot nicer and friendlier than Lord Wyldon and has some different ideas. Kel discovers that taking care of a baby griffin is painful and hard, falling in love is a new, scary and exhilarating experience and that dark trouble is brewing in Scanra which seems involves her. This book reveals all the secrets and cliffhangers of the first two books and creates some new ones. I'll look forward to Lady Knight!

4. Lady Knight

Keladry of Mindelan has finally achieved her life-long dream of being a knight. But it’s not turning out as she imagined at all. With the land of Tortall at war with the Scanrans, she has been assigned to oversee a refugee camp. But Kel has had a vision in the Chamber -- a vision of the man behind the horrific battle machines that her fellow knights and friends are now fighting without her. She is torn between a duty she has sworn and a quest that she feels could turn the tide of the war....
