The Black Swan

This retelling of the fairy tale, Swan Lake has excellent description, character development and plot. A cold hearted baron imprisons unfaithful women in the bodies of swans on his manor. When the queen of the swans, Odette, makes a bargain with him, the story heats up. If she can get a man to truly love her for a month, all the swans will be freed from their magical prison. Forces of evil get in the way, as well as many other characters, each with their own agenda.

The Serpent's Shadow

This is loosely based on Snow White. It follows Dr. Maya Witherspoon, a half Indian physician who has come to London in the early 1900s to practice medicine with the poor. Although it is classified as fantasy, I enjoyed the historical aspect of this book much more. It was quite fascinating, the author had real insight into the time period and difficulties facing women, especially from India. But don't worry, it has "the seven dwarfs" and an evil witch, although you might not recognize them right away...
