Kenshin: Beautiful weather today... The wood will be dry. (lots of credits) Tomoe: I'm sorry... Kenshin: Hm? Tomoe: I've been neglecting you lately... Kenshin: I don't mind. Tomoe: But...I feel bad... Kenshin: Let's grow some white radishes. Tomoe: Eh? Kenshin: I don't know why, but I've just wanted to do it. When I was a kid, I did it a lot. So... Tomoe: Really...? Iizuka: Working hard I see! Iizuka: Hmmm... Kenshin: What? Iizuka: Nah, it's just you two really look like a couple. Tomoe: I'll go plant now... Iizuka: Did I say something wrong? Kenshin: No. Anyway... Iizuka: Yeah. Some bad news. Back home we're having to reorganize ourselves because of what happened in the Bakan War. Kenshin: Reorganize? Iizuka: Those who support the government, to show their loyalty, are being forced to commit seppuku. Now, not a day goes by without a suicide happening. But also, the Choshu escaped punishment from the government, and things are on level ground again. But if things continue... Right now we're planning to free Takasugi-san from jail. When he's free then the Kiheitai will fight in a war soon. Kenshin: Where's Katsura-san? Iizuka: I have no idea where the hell he is. Now they call him the 'Running Kogoro.' Kenshin: No... Iizuka: Yeah, sad but true. Well, we'll just have to wait. Here's some money from Katagai-san. Also, I'll leave the supplies here for you. Go and sell some medicine to support yourselves. Kenshin: Medicine? Iizuka: Merchants will attract less attention. Kenshin: There aren't many people around here, you know. Iizuka: On the way to Otsu, there are some villages you'll pass. The medicine is for the journey, it'll give you some camoflage. You can go down to Kyoto from here in a day, but don't, since the Shinsen Gumi and the Mimawari Gumi are hunting us down. The number of reformists they kill is way more than you ever did in your days as the Hitokiri Battousai. If you do go, be careful. Later, Tomoe-san. From here on, looks like you're the wife of the medicine man. -- Kenshin: I've forgotten about the Jugoya thing these past few years. Tomoe: Around dusk, I saw some dragonflies... What will happen now? How long will we be here? Kenshin: It'll be a while, that's all I know. (chapter 2) Kenshin: I want to get back before sunset, are you ready yet? Tomoe: Yes, I am now. Kenshin: It seems true that couples attract less suspicion, doesn't it? Tomoe: Yes, we sold more than I thought, I'm glad. Kenshin: You left your short sword. Tomoe: Yes, I did. Now, I'm the medicine sellers wife. Kenshin: It's getting cold, let's hurry. -- Kenshin: This is great. Tomoe: Really? Kenshin: It's been so long since I've tasted something this good. Tomoe: Is that so...? Kenshin: Something wrong? Tomoe: No, nothing. Here. -- Kenshin: Is that so...? Iizuka: We should be patient a bit more... or are you tired of living as a medicine man already? Kenshin: That's not it actually. I don't like to kill people. Also, having lived here for the past 5 months has opened my eyes. Iizuka: That's good. Just be careful and don't let your skills weaken. See ya. Yeah...be careful... Tomoe: I'm sorry, I just don't like him... I didn't even see him off... -- Tomoe: No... after all that... Kenshin: It's because of the rain. Don't worry, half will survive. It happens all the time. Tomoe: But...but.... -- Tomoe: You never ask, do you..? Kenshin: Eh? Tomoe: About my past or anything. Kenshin: I feel bad your father doesn't know... I know it's a disguise, but we are living as husband and wife. That's why, even if I knew your past, I could say nothing of it. Tomoe: You are...no, nothing... Person1: Tomoe-chan, keep this sword as a keepsake. Tomoe: I'm sorry to have troubled you. Person2: Since he was the second child of a former samurai, he couldn't make Tomoe-chan happy, so he went to Kyoto to join the patrol groups... Person3: That's why all this happened. Person1: Don't say that. Put yourself in her shoes for a second. Enishi: What's wrong? Answer me! Sis! What happened to you..? Sis... Sis... -- Tomoe: When you're not killing, how can you be so nice...? -- Iizuka: Katsura ran off, but we still have the Battousai. It won't be long before we can kill him off. Katagai: So, it was him after all... Iizuka: These past few months his Ken-ki has gone down and the color of his eyes have changed. Iizuka: I'm impressed on the great job you've done on the plan so far. Iizuka: Damn, it was Katagai... I think it's time to put on the finishing touch before we proceed. Hey, Enishi. You've waited for this. When the rain stops, it's your turn. Yukishiro Enishi... (Chapter 3) Enishi: Sis! Tomoe: Enishi...! Enishi: Finally found you, Sis! Tomoe: This is my brother, Enishi. Kenshin: Brother? Tomoe: I've been sending him letters regularly, but I'm glad he finally came to visit. Kenshin: I see. You must have lots to catch up on, so I'll go check the crops. Tomoe: It's great to see you so soon. Is father doing well? Enishi: Yeah, I guess. Tomoe: When did you leave Edo? Enishi: Ever since you left, about a half year ago. Tomoe: Enishi...who is taking care of you now? And how did you know we were here? Enishi: I know, because I'm the informant. Come on, sis. Now, we can finally bring heaven's punishment down on him! That's your wish, right? That's why you went alone, right? How could you live with him...in this godforsaken place...? Tomoe: Go back to Edo alone. Enishi: What are you talking about, Sis?! Tomoe: You're the heir to the Yukishiro family, right? I won't let you do such dirty things. Enishi: I don't care about the family, I care about you! That's why...! Tomoe: Please go, Enishi. Please understand. Enishi: Why are you doing this...? Why are you defending him?! He's your enemy, isn't he?! He's the one who took your happiness away! Tomoe: Please give father my best. Okay? Enishi: Sis... Tomoe: Okay? Enishi: I told you where to meet. Damn him..! If only he hadn't...! Kenshin: We got it done before winter. Tomoe: Yes.. Kenshin: Since it was spur of the moment, I didn't know if it would work. But, it looks like they'll be fine. Tomoe: You look like your enjoying your food... Kenshin: Yeah... Tomoe: So, if it were otherwise, you'd live like this? Making your own food, and everything... Kenshin: I've been thinking since I got here. Mitsurugi Ryuu's purpose says that I should try to save as many people as I can, to create a new era with my sword. But now, I realize it was all my arrogance. The best I could do is protect the life I have now. I've realized what true happiness is. Having lived with you in this mountain, I realize the truth. Now I know what I was fighting for in the past... ...and what I will be fighting for in the future. That's the answer that you have shown me. Tomoe: Can we talk for a while? Kenshin: Sure... Tomoe: My family is from Edo. My father is a former samurai. He wasn't a great fighter, but he was a nice person. My mother died of frail health soon after Enishi was born. I'm Enishi's sister, but I'm also his mother in a way. He's a cute brother, really. We weren't a very wealthy family, but we got by pretty well. My engagement was decided for me... He was the second child of a former samurai, and a childhood friend of mine. When it was decided, Enishi got upset, and all was supposed to go smoothly to the marriage. But, amidst all the fighting in Kyoto, he was killed. After I heard the news, I couldn't sit still, so I rushed to Kyoto, and that's where I met you. I'm sorry... I'm sorry... I love you... Iizuka: Enishi, tomorrow you'll be able to go home with your sis. Enishi: Once Battousai is gone, sis will go home with me, right? Iizuka: Yeah, and everything will be over. After this, your obligation will be over, for you and me. Sorry, but I cannot lose this gamble. Kenshin: Just a little more. Tomoe: Yes... Kenshin: This is the last journey we'll take this year. We'll go back when the snow melts, but that's only if nothing happens to us. We should go, you'll catch cold. I...will protect you. Tomoe: When he died in that foreign place, my happiness disappeared. I couldn't show my happiness in front of him. That was all my fault, because I didn't tell him how I felt. If I only had the courage to tell him... And the more I thought about it... I felt I had to find someone to blame for it, otherwise i would've gone insane. That is why I went along with the plan to kill you. A woman like that...and yet you said you'd protect me... He was a second child of a former samurai, and though he wasn't good in fighting... He was like my father, not a good fighter, but nice to everyone. That's what i liked most about him. When he chose me, I was really happy but I didn't do anything. He never knew how happy I really was. It was my fault he didn't know that. Maybe I am destined to never be happy... Kenshin: "You make it rain blood," you said when we first met. Tomoe: Yes. Kenshin: You also said there is no happiness gained through killing others. Tomoe: Yes. Kenshin: I agree. But, I still must kill to build the new era. But, after that, i want to stop killing and find a way to protect people. So I can protect the happiness of as many as I can. And, to atone for my sins. If you are with me, I can throw away my sword. Tomoe... Tomoe: Yes? Kenshin: I will protect your happiness. Tomoe: Okay... -- Tomoe: This man took away my happiness, but he also gave me a new happiness. Goodbye... my second beloved. Kenshin - Tomoe? Tomoe? Iizuka-san! Iizuka - We found out who the spy was...it was Tomoe. Her accomplices are at the mountain shrine over there. Tomoe is probably there too, so take care of her. Kenshin - No way... Iizuka - There is evidence...in the diary. Kenshin - Diary? Iizuka - Remember the one who gave you the scar on your cheek? Tomoe was the woman he was going to marry... Tomoe - "Amidst the fighting in Kyoto, he was killed..." Next time on Rurouni Kenshin: Chapter 4: The Cross Scar Available 9/22/99 VHS/LD --END A few notes: 1) The 'Jugoya' thing. Hiro explained this line as sort of a ritual thing about watching the moon of sorts, but couldn't quite explain it. So don't worry about it. :) 2) Tomoe saying 'I love you' She says "Watashi wo...anata..." in the actual Japanese, which could be interpreted as "I am you..." but in this context Hiro explained to me it had a somewhat deeper meaning, which most likely meant she was admitting she was in love with him. So that's why I translated it as such. I released this script because no one seems to have translated it, and probably won't have it done anytime soon. So basically, I'm being a nice guy. Basically, this file is free for the taking. Here's my conditions. If you use this script, give credit where it's due, it's only fair. Do any editing you want to the script, but again, give us credit for the original version. For those reading this and going to AWA: When #4 is in, I'll have it translated pretty much effective IMMEDIATELY upon it's arrival. I'll release my script for it right after the AWA convention. I only hope that they'll allow us to screen it in there. Anyway, watch for it there if you're going! -Hiko
