Mary's whirlwind
1972 tour of Australia started in Sydney when she flew in on
Tuesday 25th January at 4.55pm, where she and husband Tony
Visconti went straight into press conferences. Mary and Tony then
spent the night at The Commodore Chateau Motel in Sydney's Kings
Cross.
On Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th
January Mary attended various radio and television shows,
including "Bandstand" (a very popular Australian music
show back then) and "G.T.K.".
Mary then attended a reception given
to her by E.M.I. where she was presented with a gold record for
"Those Were The Day's" by managing director Ken
East. (The record had sold considerably more than the 50,000
copies it needed to qualify for a gold disc in Australia at the
time).

Mary then flew on to
Melbourne, via T.A.A. Airlines, for her concert on
Thursday night at the Melbourne Town Hall.
On Friday 28th January she flew back to Sydney again for her Sydney Town Hall concert. (See concert review page for more details and photo's). It was then on to Brisbane's Festival Hall on Saturday 29th, (a much larger venue, where The Beatles played back in 1964). Mary's tour then went onto Adelaide on Sunday 30th where she performed at the "Meadows Technicolour Fair", an oudoor concert. It was then time for Mary to depart our shores the same day, when she and Tony flew back to England that same day. First port of call being to pick up Tony's pet cat. Thankyou Mary for such a short but memorable few days, please visit us in Australia again soon! |
