NorthEast WoodCarvers Roundup 2006 Classes

  • Carl Borst * Human face, This year Carl will be working with beginners to intermediate Mon. Mouse looking over a ledge, ------ Tues & Wed. Facial features specializing on eyes etc.

  • Jay Herr - Beginner carving after the Sharpening Class. Front of Hall #1 You will learn about carving with the grain, stop cuts, keeping your knife sharp. Two projects will be completed.

  • Jim O'Dea * Monday all day carve your own Human face study stick. The emphasis of the class will be on the “process”, not the artistic nature of the carving. Students will go home with own Human face study sticks. ----- Tuesday Morning - Beginners class how to use a knfe, gouges, ets. Try carving tools you may not have - spoon gouges, fishtail gouges, skew gouges, palm handles and long handles, long bladed knives, detailed knives and curved bladed knives. Hand sharpening and power sharpening techniques. Pros and cons of different woods. ------- Tuesday Afternoon -Intermediate carvers may elect from several different projects to carve and recieve help as needed. ------ Wednesday all day - Carving little people, full figure person with hands in pocket, includes carving your own face study stick appropriate to this size carving.

  • Mike Bloomquist * Mon. Carving Greenmen and Ents from Cottonwood Bark Classic and modern style male and female faces leaf design, placement etc. ------ Tues. Carving Swedish Luck Trolls, Two half day classes ----- Wed. Making your own caving patterns, two half day classes.

  • Nick Sciortino * Chip Carving, Monday and Tuesday.

  • Jim Herb * Cane Making,* twisted blanks available, bring knife, hacksaw blade, riffles, rasps, files,asst. of wrenches, scribers, sandpaper, elmers glue and 3/8inch drill would be helpful.(some tools on site), Jim will also have a spoon making workshop in the evenings.

  • Bob Muller * Monday 8 - 9 a.m. Sharpening a prerequisite for all carving classes. Bob will also have a workshop on Golf Ball Carving. Tues at 9 in Hall #1.

  • Floyd Rhadigan, from Saline Michigan, Caricatures, Floyd is a well know caricature carver and travels extensively teaching. He is featured on the cover of Carving Magazine. Floyd's site

Sciortino * Woodburning Beginner to Advanced , Bring your burner, 2 Tips (skew & Shader, pencil eraser, ruller, Pen Tracing paper (wax free) & sandpaper (220 & 600) Nick is new with the Roundup this year. He has taught many woodburning classes in the York, Pa. area. Class limit 10 Hall #2.

  • Sally & David Nye - Fan Birds, Welcome back David & Sally. They were with us in 2003 and 2004 and are back with their fantastic fan bird workshop.

  • Bill Richie - Painting on wood and also mixing paints.

  • Dave Andreychek - Relief carving. Dave will hold a beginners class and also and intermediate class. Showing the proper use of the knife, V-tool and gouges, a basic how-to and why on sharpening and stropping, some basic cuts and their use, plus a few basic projects.   • Dolores V. Kramkowski * Woodburning workshops each day. You will need a woodburner with temperature control and good burning tips. Dolores will supply wood and patterns. Hall #1 - Workshop limit 10.

  • Harry Leitheiser * Power Carving. Harry will have a beginner and intermediate power carving workshop. You may remember Harry from last year when he demonstrated power carving a flower. Monday & Wednesday

  • Barbara Mann * Cypress Knee Carving, she will have clean cypress knees from 8 to 20 inches. Barbara is new this year. She has been carving for 35 years and teaching carving for 30 years. She is an instructor for the Florida Suwannee RiverRoundup and the Evart Michigan Roundup. She is co-founder of the Tallahassee Woodcarving Club, Capital City Carvers and regularly teaches workshops for the Fallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science.

  • George Basehore * Relief Carving. A one day workshop Monday on relief carving a dog. Bring a woodcarving mallet and a 1/2 inch wood chisel Limit 10 students.

  • Herlene Iobst * Alpine Relief Carving, bring you carving tools, you will carve and paint an Alpine Scene in this two day workshop, Tuesday & Wednesday, 10 students. Herlene is a member of the Cherry Ridge Carvers and a talented artist.

  • Patrick O'Dea * Beginner Power Carving Class each day as well as Tools and related carving items.

  • Joe Macialek * Twig Carving on Wednesday, Joe is a member of the Cherry Ridge Carvers.

  • Laura Putnum Dunkle will be with us from Michigan, she will be teaching bible dudes. If the name sounds familar she is John Dunkle's wife.
