How the idea for the movie is born, and why have you chosen a zombie-topic for your film??
The idea for Come Get Some! was formed back in 1997 from one sequence I'd had in my head for a long time: An Elvis zombie walking down the street to the Antiseen song "Walkin' Dead", shot like the opening sequence in Saturday Night Fever. That's it. Then of course, I thought, "well, wouldn't it be cool to have some hot chicks killing zombies?". I have always loved horror films and B movies, and zombies have always been my favorite. I'm eagerly awaiting the zombie apocalypse that is bound to come! my love affair with zombies started when I saw Dawn of the Dead at a midnight show when I was very young. Evil Dead 2, Zombie, Night and Day of the Dead are also some of my all time favs. Peter Jackson (Bad Taste and Dead Alive especially) has been an enormous influence on my style and sense of humor.

You come from NC, has the whole film been shot there or you used different locations?
The film was shot in Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA for most of the two and a half year shooting schedule. There were a few scenes shot in Huntersville, NC as well. And we only got kicked off of one location the whole time we filmed!

What kind of equipment (films etc.) did you use to shot and record the master?
I shot on a Bolex H16 that I bought in 1998. It's from the 1960's I believe. Wonderful camera, I have never had a problem with it, even after shooting over 14,000 feet of film through it! I shot on Ilford FP4 and HP5 Black and White 16mm film stock. Ilford makes the world's best B & W film, period. We recorded sound on a MiniDisc.

The soundtrack for "Come Get Some" has been provided by some great bands the Garbage Dump readers know better, how did this choice came up to your mind? Are you a music fan? Tell us something about this and the link between heavy-rawk'n'roll and "Come Get Some"...
Antiseen has been my favorite band since I saw my first show in 1988, when I was 14. I love the rawness and honesty of their sound. The Dead Kings, Gideon Smith and the Dixie Damned, Hellstomper, and Cronic Disorder are also some of my favorites. I love punk rock; R
EAL punk rock, not this pussy shit that they call punk today. Heavy music and horror films have always gone together in my mind. The music fits the attitude of Come Get Some! like a glove. It adds an energy to it that you couldn't get with any other music. It's been an absolute dream come true for me to be able to work so closely with personal heroes of mine on my film. The soundtrack to Come Get Some! is as memorable as the film itself! And many of the bands make appearances in the film as well.

So if you are a fan of zombi flicks, what can you tell me about the italian ones?? What do you think of such directors as Fulci or Joe D'Amato??
I love Fulci and D'Amato! My favorite Italian horror maestro, though, has got to be Argento. We even named our beer in the movie Argento's after him! I love his style, the things he does with the camera. The second you start watching an Argento film, you can tell it's his. Fulci, especially with Zombie and The Beyond, is also a big influence. I love the atmosphere he could create. You felt like you were part of the movie, not just a spectator.

Is your movie going to be distributed in some way or another? I wondered if I'd ever shot a movie here, I'd go through terrible distribution problems....
I have just put the final touches on it, so I haven't yet begun the grueling search for distribution (as of the time of this writing). We have had a few companies show some interest though. We are going to distribute the film ourselves at first, shop it around on the festival circuit, and hope for the best!

What can you tell me about the cast? Any remark? Anyway that's people you've been working with for two years...
The cast has been wonderful! This movie would not have been possible without their enormous efforts. They were the most fun, hard working people that I have ever met! We had a two year shoot, and no one ever complained, not once! Everyone showed up and gave it their all. In addition, everyone had input to give. The phrase "above and beyond the call of duty" can definately be applied to the cast and crew of Come Get Some! Everyone had the same goal in mind, and did everything in their power to collectively acheive that goal. The boys from Antiseen were so much fun to work with! They are the funniest guys ever! All the scenes in the movie that they are in, the boys can take full credit for. I still don't know how they can come up with some of the shit they come up with! Genius!

The beginning of your movie is a homage to Peter Jackson's "Bad taste" I think, have you done this on purpouse or it just turned out this way?
Nice job in spotting the homage! Yes, the beginning of the film is a complete homage to Peter Jackson and his brilliant film "Bad Taste". Bad Taste was the movie that has had the most impact on me as a filmmaker. The inventive things that he did in that film made me realize that there are ways to make a good, fun movie without having to sell any body parts to raise Hollywood-type money! My film was shot on the same style camera as "Bad Taste" was, a Bolex 16mm. "Bad Taste" is a truly remarkable film.

I noticed that, apart having the ANTiSEEN guys playing the redneck bunch, the setting and some characters both embody white trash topics, and I mean for example the trailer park scene or the flashback where Ashlyn gets beaten up by her husband... did you try pushing in the film some social references joking with'em or what's the matter?
I do have a true respect for the white trash lifestyle! I wanted to set the movie in the South because that's where I've grown up and those are the people that I am familar with. I think it's very interesting that the characters that most people seem to enjoy the most are the rednecks played by Antiseen. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, we show the bad side of white trash, Shane, the drunken-abusive husband. So, we show both sides of the redneck spectrum, and I think it's interesting that the characters most people have enjoyed the most have been the rednecks that are played by Antiseen. Maybe the redneck lifestyle is becoming more accepted in today's society!

I think the use of the soundtrack sometimes is so accentuated in a way your movie starts to take a videoclip approach, what do you think about this?
The music in the film is almost as important to the tone and feel of the movie as the images are! The music creates a very high level of energy by not having sound effects and other background sounds going on while the music is playing, I think that we added a surreal type of atmosphere to the action sequences. It's like you said, the action sequences can almost be looked at as music videos in of themselves!

Why did you choose to shot such a parody amped up in rock starting from the zombie topic?
As I said before, "Bad Taste" is a huge influence for me. Also, Evil Dead 2. I like to have fun when I watch a movie, the type of fun that these movies provide. Zombies also have been a favorite of mine, so I figured, what the hell, let's just combine the two of them and make a fun zombie film that has ample doses of comedy and grotesque gore! It's also fun to watch people laughing at the pretty disgusting things happening on the screen. Punk rock has always been my favorite music, and zombies and punk just go together perfectly! And in addition, with this being my first movie, I knew that as long as we have enough hot chicks, gore, and comedy in our film, people will forgive the things that, because of budget restraints, we couldn't do the exact way we wanted to.

The girls, especially Summer in my opinion, embody the stereotype of the mean, bad-ass chick who can always manage a situation. How did you come up with such an idea and is your film tryin' to picture an actual american situation or is it just part of the fiction?
I love seeing a woman take charge and kick some ass, especially when they're as hot as the women in Come Get Some! I get tired of seeing a woman in a horror movie get reduced to just screaming and having to be rescued. I decided that the heroes of my film were going to be embody my ideal traits of a woman. And since you don't see women kick ass that much in movies today (although there have been some good movies made, like "The Last Seduction" and "Jackie Brown", just to name a couple), it's a refreshing change of pace. So, as you can see, Come Get Some! is really a chance for me to get all the things I would love to see in a movie in one movie! Zombies, comedy, inept anti-heroes, gore, punk music, and hot ass chicks

Now, apart from Peter Jackson and the zombie flicks, what are your all-time fave directors and movies?

Let's see, directors would have to be (in no particular order): The Coen Bros., Sam Raimi (back in the good 'ol days), Quentin Tarantino, George Romero, Scorsese, Wes Anderson, and Stanley Kubrick. Just to name a few. Movies would be: Goodfellas, Jackie Brown, Once Upon a Time in America, Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead Trilogy, everything Peter Jackson's done, Full Metal Jacket, everything the Coens have done, Easy Rider. The list could go on forever! Those are just a few that I could think of off the top of my head.

If you had the chance, what actors would you like to have in your next production?
Without question, Bruce Campbell and Asia Argento. He is the coolest, funniest, most humble actor out there. The basis for the Last Resort Man character came from Bruce Campbell. Asia Argento has a screen prescence that is just amazing. I watch everything that she is in. She's really amazing (and hot as hell too!). The rest of my dream cast would be Samuel L. Jackson, Sonny Chiba, Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, Linda Fiorentino (from her days in Last Seduction), Natalie Portman.

Are there any projects floating in your head for the future? Have you already settled things down for a new movie? If so, would you like to tell me something about it?
Yes. There's been this period piece drama set in 17th century upper class Britian...HA! It may seem funny, but I could make B movies until the day I die and I would be perfectly happy. B movies have such a different feel to them from these big budget hunks of shit. I like a movie that you can tell someone put their heart and soul into making. My partner in crime, Steven A. Grainger is working on a sequel right now to Come Get Some!, and I've been batting around a few ideas with the boys from Antiseen. I will always love gore, so there is a very good possibility that I'll be doing another gore film soon! The ideas with Antiseen are funny as hell, so hopefully one of those will get off the ground. I'm also shooting some music videos with some of the bands in the film (the Dead Kings, Gideon Smith and the Dixie Damned, and Antiseen). So we'll see what the future holds!

Ok, that's all, thank you so much and here you have your space to say whatever you want...
Thanks for the interview. I had a great time. And I had great time making this film too! And of course, as with most any creative project, there was a large team of people who gave everything they had for this movie, and I'd like to take this time to thank them. This movie would not have been possible without the wonderful cast and crew and friends who helped us out. And also, for any future indie filmmakers out there, it is possible to make a movie without having to live on the street. There are plenty of people out there who share your vision!
