I MET GEORGE IN AUSTIN DURING THE COS 2001 SUPERSHOW BUT WE NEVER GOT TO TALK EACH OTHER UNTIL I FOUND A GEORGE IS DEAD LINK ON EBAY AND RECOGNIZING THE GUY I SURFED IN... AND WAS DAMN SHOCKED!!! GEORGE IS DEAD IS THE KIND OF BAND THE SCENSTERS HOMOSEXUAL PUNKS WOULD HATE, A ROCKIN' NIGHTMARE DELIVERED THE OL' GG WAY: BLOOD, FURY AND OVERALL REALITY. I GOT IN TOUCH WITH GEORGE AND HE SENT ME THEIR DEBUT CD WHICH, EVEN IF HE DISLIKES, I DUG A LOT AND DECIDED TO GIVE'EM A SPOT ON GARBAGE DUMP. IF THIS WEBZINE IS HERE TO HELP YOU OUT FINDING NEW TALENTS IN ROCK, WELL, I'M PRETTY SURE YOU'LL AGREE WITH ME ABOUT GEORGE IS DEAD. AND HERE WE GO WITH THE DAMN INTERVIEW...

GD- Tell us a brief band history....
I started George Is Dead over 4 years ago with my best friend Gary on bass. It was very hard at first because I wasn't able to tell musicians who I wanted to sound like. I wanted it to be original, heavy, agressive, obscene and most of all fun. (The kind of fun I was looking for was pissing off people, scaring the audience, partying way too much and exposing organized religion for the lie that it is.) We ended up going through 7 guitarists and two drummers. The line up now has been for about 2 years and is at it's strongest with Gary on bass, Martin on guitar and Lenny on drums. Lenny is also my best friend and my co-worker.

GD- Why you chose the name "George is Dead" for the band??
I named the band George Is Dead because when I started the band I was at a very hard point in my life. I was depressed and heavily into drugs and I wasn't having much fun anymore. I became suicidal but just in time I realized I could finally start a band and use that as an outlet for all the shit going on in my head. I decided I didn't have to kill myself, I could pour all of my negativity into a band and just call myself dead instead of really becoming dead.

GD- It's pretty clear your stage appearance is wild and bloody such as the GG Allin or Jeff Clayton one can be, have you got some particular meaning for doing it?
Yes there is a definite GG influence. I always looked to GG as someone who was very troubled also but used a band as an outlet to do wild things and make some people laugh and others become terrified.( I was always a little of both.) After discovering GG when I was younger I soon discovered the whole Confederacy of Scum thing and naturaly Antiseen. Jeff Clayton is one of the greatest punk front men EVER! But since they don't come to Jersey that often, I never got to see them until the COS show in Austin 2001. I was very surprised to see how similar our stage shows are. I would never want to compete with or even compare us. He's the king of Destructo Rock and I could never come close to his greatness.

GD- What about New Jersey? Is it cool to live and play there?
It's funny you should ask about living in New Jersey because as much as I love it I am moving to Kentucky this summer. NJ is a crazy place to live. It's very overpopulated, very expensive and people are all pretty much pissed off. I'm getting the fuck out of here for a year or two. I used to spend all my time in NYC but so much has changed there that I need to get away for awhile. This country is so big and beautiful that I want to experience more of it. I love the south and spent my whole feeling crowded and in a rush. I need a change of pace. I'm still doing the band and have found people to play with in Kentucky and I plan on travelling back and forth a lot to do shows with both line ups. As far as doing shows, we always have fun but like I said New Jersey is tough and it's hard to get an audience's attention here. But we have fun. We play about 7 or 8 different places pretty regualrly and they treat us good. We can get away with the blood and fires and breaking shit. I guess the club owers just like a good show and we try real hard to put one on. Even Jeresy audiences leave a George Is Dead show knowing they have just seen something totally different and very fucked up.

GD- So you'll be moving to Kentucky...where exactly? Do you know the great band Brothers Of Conquest in Lexington?
I'm going to Louisville. I figure since it's a college town, the change won't be so drastic moving for NJ. YES I know the BOC! They are one of my favorite bands! I was lucky enough to see them play live for the very first time! They were in NJ recording their album All the Colors of Darkness with a friend of mine,Chris Pierce, in New Brunswick. I hang out and play at a bar in that city called the Court Tavern. They played at that bar during their recording session and I happened to be there hanging out. They were incredible! I've loved them ever since. Adam is a great guy.

GD- The lyrics to your first CD are really violent and heartfelt to me...does this links to your personality problems, like a way of catharsis, or is there something different behind?
Writing and peforming this way helps me deal with myself. It's good therapy to be able to write out and act out all the anger, hatred and sadness I feel in a contolled atmosphere such as a stage or studio. By getting all of that shit out of me this way, I'm a much better person. I control my temper better in public and I don't abuse myself as much. What I write comes from things I've actually experienced, thoughts I have I know I shouldn't act on, and some stuff is just plain made up... I won't say which is which.

GD- How's the response for your band in the states? Does the blood-thing cause you troubles?
We have a great loyal following that seems to grow with every show. We have been praised in the press and we have been put down as well. I personally don't care one way or the other. I do this for my sanity first and foremost. I do love it when we are written about and talked about. Good or bad, I don't care, as long as they're talking! The blood thing shocks a lot of first timers, probably because I bleed SO much. But as far as playing, we have always been asked to come back and almost always get paid so I guess the club owners don't mind. I also have a clean up crew so we never leave a big mess.

GD- You covered a song from GENOCIDE SS... do you know more about the European scumfuc tradition or they're just a spare case?
Actually Die Wasted was by a band called Genocide from New Jersey. They were fronted by Bobby Ebz. Since I was a kid, I always thought they were an amazing band that never got the recognition they deserved. Probably because they were way ahead of their time... I guess I'm not familiar with the European scumfuc thing, sorry.

GD- Oh, cool, I fucked up... anyway what do you think of today's renowed interest for GG ALLIN while when he was alive he was always treated like a criminal?
I think it's pretty hilarious..... It's because death is a great publicity stunt. Once you die, people will talk about you and remember you and tell stories about you. Death also makes people look good. You could be a total asshole but when you die, people try to remember only the good. It helps them deal with it. Like how my mom faught with my dad every single day and would yell at him and tell me how terrible he was but then he died, and since then she talks about him like he was a saint.

GD- What are your band's main influences, and what are the bands you like the most actually?
Each member listens to very different music, so I cannot speak for the other guys. I can tell you what I like but I can't list everything. I LOVE music and that list would be too long. Here's a few: Antiseen, Hellstomper, Cocknoose, Rancid Vat, Hammerlock (most COS bands). Marilyn Manson, Michael Jackson ( don't laugh.... he is THE most outrageous, insane entertainer on earth and, YES I do have a Michael Jackson tattoo!) Brothers of Conquest, Shat, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Halfway To Gone, Ramones, Kiss, Meatloaf, Madonna, David Allan Coe, Queen Adreena, Nashville Pussy, Supersuckers, Murderdolls, Diamanda Galas, old Misfits, Mortiis, Monster Magnet, most old NYHC, Nausea, a lot of 80's new wave, Bowie, Blondie, Psycotica, Curl Up And Die, Arson, Charlie Daniels Band, and so much more... That's a few.

GD- Is there something new planned for future recordingwise?
There is a KISS tribute we're on due out any day now. We are gonna play a live set on the radio next month and I'm gonna release a couple of songs from that as an EP. We're recording Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell for a new single. Then we're gonna record our first full length in a couple of months. It's gonna have new songs plus we're rerecording the songs from our demo CD. We had no studio experience when we recorded that CD and no production so we're gonna give those songs a second chance they deserve. I don't like that CD at all and I want to do it over. Once the full length is recorded we're gonna talk to some lables that are interested.

GD- Ok, that's all, say whatever you want.
Thanks again for having me on this awesome website. Fuck every single form of religion. There is no god. Live life free from guilt and fear. You are what you make of yourself.
