In modern times, astronomy has changed with the invention of new technology. During the Space Race, astronomy had a big effect on politics. As man made new space firsts, the goals of the space program changed from space flights, to landing on the moon, to sending people into space, to long-term space flights, and now to space tourism and colonies.
