+ The average townsfolk with no status or ranking would live near the outskirts of the city, while the warrior class, also know as samurai, would live closer to the heart of the city. Edo had four different rankings. The warrior class(samurai), the farmers, the artisans, and the merchants. The farmers were considered more important because of their ability to produce crops. The merchants were thought to be of the lowest ranking because of their dealings with only money.

+ Women were mere subordinates that took care of domestic life at home to the men. Despite some of the contributions women made, they were never thought of as equals.

+ Edo also had gangs made up of young men from the warrior class, who would go around causing trouble.
