Local Activities, Classes, & Teachers

There are a lot of resources available to us in this area. This page lists classes, field trips, & activities that are open to the public or have classes & activities aimed specifically to homeschoolers, & teachers who are interested in working with us!

Kittatiny Valley State Park offers programs & activities year round. Pre-registration is required. I am currently updating the group calendar with their schedule, so check there for specific programs!

Special Programs through Community Colleges

College for Kids & Teens is run through County College of Morris & offers classes for kids ages 9 - 18. They are also offering classes for homeschooled children ages 9 - 14 starting with the Spring of 2004. The class listings can both be found on the schedule you will find on the link above. Teenage homeschoolers are welcome to take regular, for credit, classes through the Challenger program but I can't find any kind of link on their website about this.

Kids on Campus is a program run by Sussex County Community College aimed at 4th - 7th graders.

Community Schools & Adult Education

These locations offer classes for both children & adults. There are usually classes offered in the fall, spring, & summer unless stated otherwise.

Byram Recreation Programs offers a summer program that is open to all. Just scroll down the page to the calendar & download the brochure. Some of the other programs, such as ice hockey camp, are also open to those who live outside of Byram.

Are We There Yet? lists museums, historical sites, aquariums, & more in the NJ/NY/PA area. Many of these places, especially the museums, parks, & historical sites, offer classes & lectures.

NJ Country Kids is a free magazine/newsletter you can pick up in many local stores. If you look under the "Education" listing on the menu on the left, you will see links to schools, camps, & party guides. Also, if you choose the "Things to Do," you will see a listing of events going on in Northern NJ.

NW NJ Skylands Guide lists parks, farms, & other places to visit in the Skylands area.

ParentGuide NJ is similar to NJ Country Kids, with the exception that it covers the NY/NJ Metro area.

Teachers

Kelly Wisneski is a music teacher offering music lessons to homeschoolers located in the Pequannock/Wayne/Riverdale/Lincoln Park area. She has a BS music ed, has experience in vocal and instrumental working with grades K-12, is a private piano teacher & is offering Music Together (ages 0-4) & MM music ed coming summer 2003.
