Sailor Moon 1, Act 4: Masquerade

In the control room, Luna is using the computer to look at the soldiers’ profiles: Bunny, Amy, and Raye. Also on there is Darien Shields, with little information available. Luna wonders if this interesting guy is a friend or foe.
At Bunny’s house, Bunny’s mom is looking at the paper, which has a picture of Sailor Moon on the front and the headline “ ‘Sailor Moon’ In Action: Sendai Hill ‘Phantom Bus’ Case Cracked”. She wonders who that young-looking girl is. Just as she notices another headline, “Princess D Arrives From D-Land”, Bunny rushes by her, late again. She and Luna hurry off to school, barely even noticing that there are more police than usual around. She arrives at school, and Molly is happy that she made it, and tells her that Ms. Haruna hasn’t gotten there yet. She asks Bunny if she saw all the cops this morning, and when Bunny asks why, Molly tells her that it’s because Princess D of D-Land is coming today, and D-Land is known for its diamonds. She says that there’s a ball at the embassy tonight (Bunny says “Wow, a princess”) and that Princess D is going to inherit the D-Land fortune, which will be displayed at the ball. Luna is looking at the paper (more specifically, the headline about D-Land) and one of Bunny’s friends says that her cat is trying to read the paper.
At Crown Arcade, Amy and Raye are already there when Bunny arrives, and they chide her for being late. Luna says that Bunny failed her test and had to stay after. Raye asks (rather haughtily) why she has to be a soldier, she’s too busy. Then (suddenly businesslike) she asks rather rudely, “Who is this princess we’re looking for? Which country? Do we have any clues? Also, you need to tell us your true origins and your role. Or else I won’t be a part of it.” Luna says that the truth is, she can’t tell them yet because they wouldn’t believe her if she did. Amy says that they do need some info, at least, about the enemy and the Crystal. Luna says that the enemy is a mystery too, and she doesn’t know how they got here. Amy says she thought they were chosen to fight the enemy. Luna says no; they were chosen to protect the princess and they can’t find the princess because she was sealed away. Raye asks why that was necessary, and Luna replies that it was probably because the princess has the Crystal with her. She says the Silver Imperium Crystal possesses unbelievable power and it can’t get in the hands of an enemy. Luna continues to say that they haven’t received their full Soldier powers yet. They need two more soldiers, then their powers will become complete and the princess will be unsealed. Raye asks how they become complete, and Luna answers that it will come from their memory: they have to remember. Especially Bunny, Luna thinks to herself. You were the first Soldier. You must become the leader and stop being irresponsible. Bunny, however, is still playing the video game. Luna jumps on her head and tells her to pay attention, this is important—but Bunny wants to finish one more level. Just then, Andrew the arcade guy asks what’s up with all the cops lately. He pats Bunny’s head and thanks her for “bringing cute girls here.” Bunny answers that Princess D’s in town, which is why all the cops are around. Luna thinks to herself that Princess D’s treasure makes her nervous. Just as Andrew is wondering if the princess is glamorous, Melvin appears with a rare photo of Princess D. He unrolls it to reveal a rather nerdy girl with glasses and short hair. Everyone is disappointed and Bunny says she looks like Melvin. Bunny says she’ll probably be wearing a beautiful dress at the ball, and she wants to go too and see the treasure. But Raye says that isn’t a good idea, she has a bad feeling that there will be trouble.
Inside the dark castle, Queen Beryl is looking at the newspaper (with the headline about the D-Land treasure) through her crystal ball. She says it needs looking into. Meanwhile, Nephrite is looking at the decomposing corpse of Jadeite (which is in a clear case). He tells him not to worry, he will revive him—but he needs the Silver Crystal. Queen Beryl says yes, with the Silver Imperium Crystal’s power, he can revive Jadeite and the Dark Kingdom will rule the entire universe. She says that she wants to see how beautiful the Crystal is, and tells Nephrite to find it for her now.
Bunny arrives at her house to see her dad all dressed up. She asks why, and he tells her he has to go to the D-Land Ball tonight. Bunny can’t believe it, and she wants to go too. Her father tells her to watch it on the news. But Bunny gets a mischievous glint in her eyes as she tells Luna they should go investigate. Then she uses her Moon Pen to morph into a princess.
Inside the ball (Bunny has dragged Raye and Amy along too), she and Luna are looking at all the masked people, none of whom they can identify. Bunny wanders off by herself, wishing she could have one dance. Bunny’s own father sees her, but doesn’t recognize her—he thinks the girl he sees looks like an older version of Bunny, and when she grows up she’ll be just as pretty. Suddenly someone spills a drink on Bunny’s beautiful dress, and she rushes off to clean it, not even noticing that she left handkerchief behind. A mysterious masked man (it’s Tuxedo Mask) picks it up, reading “Bunny – Crossroads Junior High” on it.
Meanwhile, amid all the people, Bunny can’t find the restroom. She looks out at all the people dancing and thinks that she’s dressed up as a princess, but she’s all alone. Just then, someone addresses her as “Beautiful princess” and sweeps her into his arms and they begin to dance. It is Tuxedo Mask, and, blushing, she can’t believe it—it’s like a dream. She says that just now, she was thinking that she wanted to see him. He says him, too. Suddenly Luna cries out her name and she turns, happy to see her—but when she turns back, Tuxedo Mask has disappeared. Luna tells her that they found Princess D inside, but she isn’t their princess.
At Princess D’s throne, an attendant is telling her that it is almost time. Princess D says that she knows, and beckons a woman (who bears a resemblance to Queen Beryl) to her, and asks her to show her to her room. As they walk to her room, Princess D says that everything is about the treasure and no one cares about her, but if she were prettier it would be different. Suddenly the woman’s eyes turn evil, and she says that’s right, no one cares about her. Thinking “The treasure is mine now!”, she turns into an evil spirit and goes into Princess D’s body. The “Princess” rushes off to the treasure room. Two men walk in there, but Princess D grabs the treasure, hits them, and runs out of the room. She heads for the balcony, the people shouting that Princess D’s gone crazy. Bunny and Luna notice her reach the balcony’s edge, and Bunny runs after her and tries to pull her back. But Princess D flips Bunny over the balcony’s edge, and she is about to fall when Tuxedo Mask grabs her hand. Just then her wristwatch communicator goes off, and it is Amy and Raye telling her that Princess D’s been possessed by the enemy. Just as Bunny’s hand is slipping from Tuxedo Mask’s grip, Luna tells her to use the pen. Bunny’s Moon Pen turns into an umbrella, and she and Tuxedo Mask float to the ground. He thanks her for saving him (addressing her as Sailor Moon, when she isn’t transformed) and runs off. She thinks, No, you’re the one who always saves me, and wastes no time transforming into Sailor Moon. Suddenly she realizes she isn’t wearing her tiara because it burned up when it destroyed Jadeite. Just then her body begins to feel warm and a new tiara pops onto her forehead. She reaches her friends, but they tell her it’s too late, Princess D has sucked everyone into a dark trance. The demon inside Princess D says that the treasure and everyone’s energy belongs to her now. Raye uses her “Aku Ryo Tai San” attack, but it doesn’t work. Suddenly Sailor Moon hears a voice (Tuxedo Mask’s, because he is hiding behind one of the embassy’s pillars) telling her to conquer the darkness with the power of light. Luna tells her to use her new tiara to reflect the darkness. Bunny puts two fingers on her tiara and aims it at Princess D, saying “Moon Twilight Flash!” The attack destroys the demon. Watching from his crystal ball, Nephrite realizes that she destroyed his shadow. Inside the embassy, people are beginning to wake up, including Princess D, whose glasses fall off. The Sailor Soldiers are shocked to see that Princess D is really very pretty without her glasses (and they wonder if maybe Melvin without his glasses is actually really handsome). The party returns to normal, and D-Land’s treasure is finally shown: it is a 2000-carat diamond statue of D-Land’s queen. Everyone is very surprised. Suddenly Sailor Mercury realizes that Sailor Moon has wandered off.
Somewhere else, Sailor Moon is exhausted and thirsty, so she drinks a martini from the table. The alcohol goes straight to her head, and she hiccups. Then she goes to sleep right against someone, who turns out to be Tuxedo Mask. Then she shifts positions so she is hugging him, and he blushes, remembering what she said when they danced (“Just now, I was thinking that I wanted to see you”) and carries her over to a window and lays her down. Then he leans in and kisses her (she is still asleep). Just as she is thinking that this feels like something from a long time ago, somewhere, Luna appears and tells him to get away from Bunny. He gets up and looks at her. She asks who he is and why he always appears. Stroking Bunny’s hair, he says he is also looking for the Silver Imperium Crystal. Luna asks if he is an enemy, or on their side. Tuxedo Mask says he doesn’t know, but since they both want the same Crystal, they may be enemies. Enemies, he thinks, looking at Sailor Moon.
Elsewhere, a girl with wavy hair in a ponytail sees the flash of lightning in the sky and says that a storm has begun.
