Suitable for ages 13 and up. Has quite a bit of violence, skimpy clothes, and one scene of nudity. (which isn’t even that big of a deal and is poorly drawn anyway.) Viewed on VHS 1 hour 2 episode OVA

I actually saw this movie a while ago but I refuse to rent it again because this movie was so disgustingly bad, but I will try my best. I must remind you, that I am a huge Toshinden fan. I love the playstation games... Anyway, this movie was about a super secret tournament called Battle Arena Toshinden. Eiji, our stereotypical main character was fighting the big man named Gaia at last year's tournament until their battle was interrupted by a super secret organization known as the ummm organization. Anyway, Eiji was never able to find his long lost brother Sho, but now one year later, a mysterious person that looks just like Eiji's brother Sho is stealing Battle Arena Toshinden warrior's moves and uses them against them to pulverize them. Now Eiji must get to the bottom of this. Well, the plot is really bad. It's something that has been said and done before.

The plot tries to set up some fights between the characters, but it's a shame that I can't remember any of the fights. (which either tells you I have Alzheimer’s or the fights were very forgettable. I think the second choice is the right one.) All I remember was a lot of huge fireball blasts like those from Dragon Ball Z (::shudder:: I hate that show) and a so much spinning whirlwind attacks that I thought I was on the scrambler. Ok, Pokemon gym battles are memorable, Cardcaptor Sakura battles are memorable, (THEY ARE! especially the one with the shadow card!), the battles from Akira are memorable, X has a few neat battles, Ninja Scroll has high-energy battles and the Street Fighter Movie has good ones too, but the battles in this move just feel like ridiculously dumb, pointless battles. I mean, even the battles from the video game are more exciting to watch than these.

The art was pretty ugly. The cover may look neat, but the art and animation in the movie was rather bland and undetailed. Oh my, the Sofia shower scene was terribly drawn. I swear, she looked like a peach colored prune. Don't get me started on the English voice acting either. I remember Ellis' ditzy voice. She sounded like Britney Spears on helium, but much worse. I remember everyone else’s' voices were very unconvincing too.

The character designs just weren't right. I mean, video game characters really don't translate well to movies, especially fighting game characters. Most video game characters are very clichéd, lame and lack depth. This is no exception. There isn't any character development; characters just fight and die. I also didn't expect the characters to look like this in anime. From what I've played in the video game, the characters just don't feel like their video game counterparts. (for example, Sofia's face is a bit to evil and Ellis isn't that cute or that dumb.) I don't know. I was disappointed with everything in this movie. The ending is quite ridiculous too. (Oh let's every one of us fighters unite to destroy our common enemy at the dark mysterious place. Hmmmm yeah ok.......) the fighting scenes are bad, the story is bad (good thing it is only 1 hour, I don't think I could sit through any more of it.), the dubbing is awful, the animation is bad and everything is just so bad. I don't even think hardcore fans of the video games could take this movie. Terrible, terrible, terrible. I don't recommend it to anyone. You should maybe recommend it to someone you hate. It's redundant, pointless, forgettable and bad.
