"SALMON PINK, CEPHIA, MOSS GREEN, GREY! SHINESMAN GO!" I couldn't help it. This 2 episode OAV is hilarious. It's a spoof on Power Rangers, and a very good one at that.

There isn't really a story. It's about 5 Japanese business workers who actually work for the special duty combat unit: Shinesman. Aliens invade Earth and the Shinesman must save the day. Ok it's not much of a story but there isn't supposed to be one. It's supposed to be a total spoof on Power Rangers.

I watched the first 5-10 minutes of this movie and I was not amused. I thought to myself, "wow, this is corny and stupid." But then the jokes started to kick in and I was laughing my arse off. (Tie Clip Bomb!) These people have the worst attacks, the ugliest colors and know that they are total losers. (“We have got to get better attacks!”) I love it when the kids boo the Shinesman because their colors are so ugly.

The villain is hilarious too. Even with her bad taste in clothing, she is really funny. The voice acting is awesome. I think this is one of those rare dubs, where the English voice acting actually adds to the movie. The voices actually made me enjoy this movie a lot. I haven't seen the subbed version but everyone says that the English dubbed version is better.

The animation is all right. The animation quality is about average quality TV animation and doesn't really reach animation levels in movies. The music is forgettable but it is just as corny as a Power Rangers song. If you don't like Power Rangers, buy this movie. It's the ultimate insult! And if you don't have any bitter feelings toward the Power Rangers or shows like that buy this movie anyway because it is just so funny. I think all will enjoy this movie, unless you have been living in your closet and refuse to be exposed to pop culture. People who like serious anime probably won't like this either. In fact, I think this is one of the few animes that can be enjoyed by the whole family. It would be rated G for some slapstick violence. There is no sex, gore, nudity or language. Kids will enjoy the Power Ranger action scenes and teens and adults will enjoy the humor and jokes about pop culture and the Power Rangers.

The only complaint I have is that this is only a one-hour long, 2 episode OAV. That would've been fine if everything was wrapped up within the hour but there are a LOT of loose ends left untied. It left me wanting so much more. (Shinesman would've been an excellent two-hour movie.) However, I don't think we will ever see what happens because there are only two episodes in Japan too. (this wasn't popular there, I don't know why, maybe the Japanese don't like it when people make fun of Power Rangers.) It has been 6 years since this was made and maybe, just maybe, by some long shot, someone in Japan will realize that this series is a masterpiece and will pick up where the second OAV ended. That probably won't happen, so hopefully, someone will translate the Magna and bring it the U.S. I really hope so because I am a huge Shinesman fan now. It's one of my faves and should be one of yours too.
