The dubbed version is suitable for ages 5 and up. There is some violence and the villain is scantily clad. Viewed on VHS

Sailor Moon S: Hearts in Ice, is my second favorite Sailor Moon movie, of the three. It's much better than Sailor Moon Super S, but doesn't quite reach the level of Sailor Moon R, as a terrible story and weak pacing hamper Sailor Moon S. Ok, well the story is about an ice witch, named princess Kaguya who tried to take over earth many years ago, however, a bright light forced her back, and Kaguya was forced to float around in space, contemplating how to take earth for many years. Well, the time is now, Kaguya will get her revenge and take earth, by freezing it into a barren, icy wasteland and take it for her collection. Will Sailor Moon be able to stop this very nasty ice witch, before she takes over the world?

The plot is highly unoriginal. I think the plot is what holds back this movie the movie the most. Evil queen trying to take over the world; it's been done many times before. However, the villain is cool, she is very mean and nasty, but she's not too tough, cocky or annoying or anything like that. Anyway, going on about the plot. The movie tended to drag in some places. This movie is about love, particularly the love that develops between Luna and an astronomer man that saves her life. (OH MY GOD, is Luna kissing a human?!?! Say it ain't so! MY virgin eyes!!!) It's really nice, maybe a bit too sappy at times, but the love stuff in this movie tends to make the movie be really corny at some parts (Sailor Moon's Spiral Twister attack is ridiculous, by the way.) and it makes the movie drag and become kinda boring. (more action please.) And I won't give anything away, but I should mention, why did they make Luna look so ugly? Yuck, she looks like a hobo. You'll see what I mean, if you see the movie.

My favorite thing about this movie is the battle against Kaguya. (I love the big energy, laser beam blast thingies) It's a huge battle, between Kaguya and Sailor Moon, and it's definitely the best battle of all the movies. (This battle reminded me a little bit of the battle against Queen Beryl) I was a bit disappointed though. The battle is pretty short and it lacked music. The art is a little better than the TV show, but not by much. I do like the pretty snowscapes though. The attacks are neat and very flashy, especially Sailor Pluto's attack. The characters are the same as the TV show. I like em all, except for our residential pain in the arse, Sailor Mini Moon. (The snow dancers are a bit annoying too.) Kaguya is great, and I like the outer senshi too. I thought the English voice acting could've been better though. Sailor Pluto sounded very plain and it was almost as if one of the people who voiced Sailor Mars or Sailor Venus, was voicing Sailor Pluto too. Some of the voice actors come up a little flat, Kaguya sometimes overdoes it and Tuxedo Mask, seemed to lack emotion. The person who voiced Luna does an excellent job though, considering that the part of Luna is very emotional and important to the story. All in all, I would recommend this movie for Sailor Moon fans and maybe even non-sailor moon fans. This movie is definitely worth the ten bucks and even has a cool battle at the end. Plus, it's much more emotional than the other Sailor Moon movies and could induce a few tears. Had the movie been paced better, had a better storyline and a longer battle, it would've been a fantastic movie, however, Sailor Moon S is still worth a purchase.
