Suitable for ages 12 and up. Intense war violence and adult situations Viewed on VHS 2 hour long movie
This movie is considered a classic anime and I have no idea why. It's spectacularly average in just about every area. Venus wars is about the desolate planet of Venus that has now been ripped apart by wars and other things. Our hero, Hiro and his punk motorcycle gang become involved in the war in Venus as does the blonde haired reporter from Earth, Susan. The characters are rather plain. Hiro is lame and all the other characters are lame too, except for Susan. She is an original, funny and beastly woman. I love her. She was probably the only memorable character in the whole movie. The story has a rehashed feeling. You've seen it before. Speaking of lame, the whole movie is rather lame. The animation is old but not that bad, and the mixing of computer-generated scenes with animation is done horribly. The scene where the bikes are riding though a video of Mars from Nasa is so pathetic its unbelievable. The story is All right but feels like two stories. The first half involves Hiro and his friends fighting the government and the second half involves Hiro and his friends in the war. The story can also get corny at times. (Oh let's have a bike race to prove our manliness. Give me a break!) They don't mix well and I think one half or the other should have comprised the whole movie. The dubbing is average. It's passable but not fantastic. The music fits but isn't very memorable. The atmosphere is passable but not very memorable. The script is passable but not very memorable. The story is passable but not very memorable. The action is passable but not very memorable. The characters are passable but not very memorable. This is basically the whole movie, passable but not very memorable. It was kinda boring too. I had to stop towards the end and take a break because the movie was really dragging on for way too looooooooooooooong. The movie's message was lame. Hate leads us to war. Oh that's original. The movie would probably be rated PG-13. It's pretty tame but has some realistic violence and some swearing. Maybe if the movie had me thinking about it for days after watching it or maybe if the movie was actually interesting I would recommend it. However, I can only recommend a rental.
