A very average and corny movie that is aimed towards kids; only one hour long, I didn't expect too much anyway. Sonic, the lovable blue hero from all your genesis games has made the transition to the anime world. Sonic, with his always-annoying pal, Tails must leave the world of the sky and save the world by stopping the evil metal robotnik and stopping the high-voltage power generator from exploding, in the land of darkness. Robitnik, our ever-lovable bad guy with the red mustache and bald egghead, claims that he fled Robotropolis in the land of Darkness to escape metal robotnik. Is he lying? What is Robotnik scheming now? Only the incredibly fast-footed Sonic the Hedgehog can stop this but what he meets in Robotropolis is more than he bargained for. An enemy, called metal sonic that can match sonic's every move. What will he do? I wish this movie was better. I do like the story but everything else seems poor. The voice acting is awful. I mean AWWWWWWWWWWFULLLL. Tails is about as irritating as a character can get. Sonic's voice is nasally and grating. Knuckles' voice is very unconvincing. Robotnik sounds good though and the president's daughter is really funny. The voice actress does a great job of bringing her character out. Since they aren't the main characters, we spend the majority of the time listening to Sonic and tails is irritating. The animation is pretty ugly. It's undetailed and kind of ugly. It's a kid's cartoon but at least try to make the movie pretty the look at. The characters are pretty rough, but robotropolis is really cool looking and the backgrounds are rather nice. The dialogue is really corny, as is the rest of the movie. Tails at one part gives a pleasing Wheeeeeeeeeeee and a thumbs up as he flies into robotropolis. Gimme a break. Then when the president calls Sonic's house, Knucles answers the phone and the president asks who he is. He replies, "I'm Knuckles, I'm Sonic's best friend!" I don't know but that line felt like a line from an after school special or something corny like that. The music is rather irritating too. The saxophone, synthesizer, drum thing they got going on in the background is very, very stupid. One exception is the end theme called "Look Alike." Although, the lyrics are awful, the song sounds very cool. There are some good things to this movie. The president's daughter, Sara, is really funny. She provides the comic relief with her frequent spazes. The story is cool and metal sonic and robotnik are very convincing bad guys. The movie has a few funny jokes and basically the movie is fun to watch. No thinking required! It's entertaining. If it wasn't so annoying and corny, I would've liked it much more. However, this movie is at least worth a rental if you can find it and maybe a purchase if you like silly, children's anime and you should probably like Sonic too. Rent it at least and maybe if the movie was on sale for five bucks, you could buy it. |
