Whoa, this is one crazy series. After watching this movie, I said, "Wow-that was cool!" I was a bit creeped out after looking at the quote from Gamefan on the back of the movie and seeing that I said the same exact thing that they said ::shifts eyes, looks around suspiciously:: Someone must be watching me...

Ok, here's what this movie is about. Count D (nice name) runs a pet store in Chinatown. (Which I assume is in New York.) His motto is to sell love, hopes and dreams. You can imagine the trouble with that. This 4 episode series is very cool. The first episode is called "daughter." By the way, the one-word titles add to the creepiness. This 30-minute story deals with parents who killed their daughter with too much love, that is, spoilage. Count D sells the parents a rare breed of rabbit that looks just like their dead daughter. Of course there are terms. (Sigh again. Certain restrictions will still always apply.) One of these terms includes, do not feed the pet anything other than fresh water and vegetables, even if she begs. Hmmmmmm, how will the spoiling parents deal with not giving in to their little pet daughter? Count D will not be held responsible for any of the consequences, which may result in breaking any terms. Let's just say that this story is excellent and lessons that we can learn from this story are great. There is also a bit of symbolism in this episode, which is very cool. I was very proud of myself because I noticed the symbolism, or maybe I'm just completely wrong...

Anyway, the next episode is called "delicious." It deals with a depressed man whose wife, pop star Evangeline Blue, died during their wedding day. He goes to Mr. D's shop looking for a pet that will help him get over his loss. He happens to find a mermaid that sings and looks just like his deceased fiancée. He is determined to hold onto Evangeline forever. Of course we have our restrictions and Count D cannot be held responsible......... This episode is excellent too. It's also a sad episode. The consequences are not fun or happy at all. However, this episode also has a lesson. I don't want to reveal any of the lessons because I don't want to ruin the movie but it's a good lesson.

"Despair," the third dark and creepy episode deals with a washed up, one hit wonder actor, named Robin, who is seen as a pretty boy without any acting talent. Of course, Robin likes lizards very much and decides to go to Count D. and picks out an extra special lizard. This half Medusa, half woman goes with Robin and the two of them fall in love and become devoted to each other. Of course the ending of this episode is depressing too. (They all are.) This episode again has something that we can learn. (I love anime with educational value!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) This episode is great too, but probably the saddest one of them all.

The last episode is called "dual." Count D. sells the holy beast Kirin to two men. (This Kirin looks like a little girl.) Anyway, one man is pretty much subservient to the other man who is basically a jerk. The subservient man has only the best intentions for the world and his boss' wife. However, the Kirin only will choose one master. When the Kirin chooses his or her master, the master will get one wish, which has consequences on someone else... bad consequences. This episode is good. I wouldn't have put this one last in the series though, because it isn't as exciting or as cool as the first 3 episodes.

The series seems to end on a lower note than it should of. However, this episode isn't bad at all. The first 3 episodes set such high standards for the series that this episode doesn't seem to achieve that standard. However, this episode has the best ending and the happiest one too. (It’s not exactly happy but it's as close we will get to a happy ending in this series.) This episode, like all the others has a moral also. Ok, now you know the story let's discuss.

The animation is ok. It's noting fantastic since it is T.V. anime. However, it's not bad but doesn't quite reach movie level animation. The atmosphere is excellent. The permanent dark red tone of Count D's shop really adds to the creepiness. The music is pretty good. Nothing too memorable but it works where it is needed. The characters and character designs are nice. I think the investigator, who is convinced that Count D is up to something in his pet shop is pretty funny. He visits Count D like 5 times a day and has tea with him. I really think the investigator just has a crush on Count D and wants to investigate Count D thoroughly. LOL Ok, no pun intended. The stories are excellent too. However, I think that this show could've been made into a great huge series, but then again, not much effort would be put into each story and there wouldn't be as much meaning in each story like there is now. I have only watched the subbed version and I have seen a little of the dubbed. I think the dubbed version is ok but the subbed is the way to go. All in all, this movie is creepy and is really cool. If you like horror anime buy it. However, if you don't like horror anime buy it anyway! You won't be disappointed
