This is the best movie ever. It's my favorite movie, anime or live action, right now. Perfect Blue is about a young woman, Mima, in a struggling pop group called CHAM. Unsatisfied with the money she is receiving, she tries her hand at acting. Mima lands a part in a sexually graphic TV show called Double Bind, where she loses the innocence and privacy she once had. Mima's life turns into a living hell when she finds a website that discusses all the intimate details of her life, and as she realizes that she is being stalked by a real sick sick person, people involved with her life are brutally murdered. And to make matters worse, Mima starts to lose her grip on reality, unable to tell the difference between fantasy and reality. Could it even be Mima committing the murders without her even knowing it?

The story sounds confusing, and rest assured, it is. But what I like about this movie, is that all the elements mentioned in the synopsis are tied together so well that everything just makes sense....... after you watch it a few times that is. The movie has such a complicated plot and it is woven together nicely. The movie is also paced well. There's quite a bit of suspense which then leads up to a great action scene and then a little drama and mystery thrown in for good measure.This movie is terrifying and disturbing in such a good way. You might even forget you are watching an animated film because the characters and situations seem so real. It's just so scary. The movie plays with your mind and will keep you guessing until the very end. Of course, I won't ruin anything, but the ending will leave your jaw on the ground. It's that good.

The animation and art is wonderful and you can tell it was done carefully to pull you into Mima's world. The music is great too, with some creepy music during those scenes where Mima loses her grip on reality. The main song for the movie, which is the pop song by Cham, is called The Angel of you Heart. This is a great song and is even in English. The dubbers changed the song to English and it even sounds better than the Japanese original, maybe not better, but it sounds just as good as the original. The voice acting in the English dub is also great. Mima does an excellent job because she just sounds so right. Mima has a very meek voice and high-pitched voice. The voice actress performs this tough role nicely, as she never overacts, well she isn’t quite as good as the Japanese Mima (yes I have seen the subbed and dubbed versions of the movie), she is still excellent. All the other characters just sound right and there is never anyone who over or under acts in the cast. Very professional.

There are a few flaws. The wake up from a dream sequence is abused. It was used at least three times and got quite annoying. Mima is also a wimp. All she does is whine about her problems. She needs to do something about them instead of whine. She should probably carry a gun in her purse or something. Everything else is pretty much flawless. I recommend a purchase because you can watch it a few times and you will fully be able to understand it. It's an awesome movie and well worth the money. However, if you are squeamish or immature (you wouldn't understand it if you were immature.), then you probably won't want to see it. (Although you would be committing a crime against yourself.) The murder scenes are rather graphic, however, not disgustingly nasty and there is nudity and a staged rape scene (which is very hard to watch) involved. However, these elements, which most people would consider bad, are not in the movie for no reason at all. The murder scenes will leave you wondering why and who is doing this, and the reason, which you will figure out, is perfect. The nudity and rape shows Mima losing her innocence and squeaky-clean image. Once you get this movie, you'll understand that is truly is brilliant. Anyway, this movie would most likely receive a rating of a high R. This movie will leave you wondering about the plot for weeks. It took me about a week to piece together the movie after watching it three times. Ok, I lie; it took me a month and about 6 viewings to understand this movie. It's great! This is suspense, animation and horror at its finest!
