Exodus 21-23

ONE GREAT TRUTH: The greatest kind of freedom is living in obedience to God’s revealed will.

A year or two ago, a radio station gave away a year of free living – somebody’s bills were paid for an entire year so they could “live for free.” We’ve been bought by the blood of Christ so that we can take advantage of living for free as well – all of our sin debt has been paid.

The Bible says we can use our liberty as an occasion for the flesh (to sin), or we can use our freedom to live fully for Christ. God gave His people a lot of guidance for living in freedom…

KEYS TO FREE LIVING…

1. Respect the freedom of others. (21:1-11)

2. Preserve justice in the world. (21:12-36)

3. Respect the property of others. (22:1-15)

4. Fight for human rights. (22:16-28)

5. Be a giver. (22:29-30)

6. Pursue holiness. (22:31)

7. Look out for the poor. (23:1-9)

8. Treat the land well. (23:10-11)

9. Live with balance. (23:12)

10. Commit to worship. (23:13-19)

11. Follow God’s leading every step of the way. (23:20-33)

This is an impressive passage about walking hand-in-hand with God. It’s not meant to give us a lengthy list of rules to live by, rather to teach us what it is to walk in wisdom and holiness in this life we live for God.
