The Weekend:

Saturday we mostly hung out. Before we went to the house we stopped at the craft fair at the park. I was impressed with the peeler core snowmen, santa, and reindeer. We got a painted turtle rock for Monica. Then, when we went back to the car, Rich had more trouble than usual with the keys. Yes indeed. That was because it was someone else's car. Oops.

Later Rich walked back there with his sisters while I surfed the Web. They (the family) watched sports in the afternoon. We went to church that evening so that Mom could show off her family, and someone recognized Rich and talked to him. I liked the sign which said with the name of the nearby mall. When we got home, Phil and his family were there, all but his son. Therefore we saw everyone except the two high school seniors. Frank actually left the TV to play with the baby, who was having a blast playing with some styrofoam packing. (The baby was a surprise to us, as no one had bothered to mention her. She's 16 months old and as cute as anything.) We said goodbye to Pat and Mike this evening, as they were leaving early the next day.

Sunday we went to the Zoo. The temperature was 67 degrees, with normal being 45. Rich didn't remember ever having gone to the Zoo as a kid. We, again, got in free, and were handed a "key" for the soundboxes. From then on Rich kept trying to get the silly things to work, but they'd had a hard summer. Ours became a Christmas ornament, of course.

The Zoo has some great exhibits. The old cages are mostly gone and the new paddocks are gorgeous. Only the bears are in old-style cages. My favorite exhibit was the bats. This display is even better than the High Desert Museum in Bend. There was a koala on loan from the San Diego Zoo, sleeping on a eucalyptus. (Do these things actually ever move?) And Rich got up front and personal with a camel. It didn't spit in his face, lucky man!

We spent about three hours here and then went back to the house and hung out. That night we said goodbye to everyone except my Mother-in-law.
