The other day we were sitting in the house just reading when there was this THUMP! outside. "What was THAT?" I asked. Rich thought maybe it was one of the palm fronds coming down and we both looked out, different windows. No, there was a dead squirrel on the pavement. One doesn't usually expect squirrels to fall out of trees. Perhaps one of the scales on the palm gave way under it. Or, bad thought, I considered rabies. Rich went out to take care of it, and it came to and scampered back up the tree. That alone is amazing, as it must have fallen 20 feet, and we certainly thought it was dead, not just stunned.
We sweep the driveway every day, but you certainly wouldn't know it. Thousands of dates are out there every morning. In fact, more drop onto the clean area while we're sweeping.
Anne Lamott talks about iguanas. I love lizards, but we currently are reptileless, which makes our mail-picking-up neighbor a lot happier.
When it was clear I didn't see any meteors, and at 2, when it was supposed to peak, it was cloudy. How disappointing. Though I'm sure I saw them 33 years ago! (Actually, it was a magnificent comet 33 years ago, in New Mexico where the sky is clear.)
Apropos of nothing, we were surprised the other day to realize that Kaukauna is a WISCONSIN name!
