October 21: No Respect

Oh, whine. The Name Game didn't get my picture, which I pried out of the frame my Mom had put it into umpty years ago (maybe as many as 50!) and scanned and sent months ago, and again last week. So, here it is! (Sulk.)

The other thing I sent was used, my "signature." Now I'm asking Shelly for help, since I got this one transparent, but cannot for the life of me remember how. I have a bony font ("Fossil") that I really want to use for my title, but first I gotta get it transparent. I eventually found this page, however. Now my front page has a different look!

I've been doing file management, sorting out pictures and picture programs from games from everything else. In the long run I had 45.3 Meg, 967 files, in the Recycle bin when I, gulp, flushed it. So far so good. When the new disk was set up, we moved 5976 files which included 801 files in the Netscape cache. (It's supposed to automagically empty, but doesn't, so I flush it regularly. Case in point, tonight the 'puter froze, and I had over 13Meg in the cache. (1,706 files. Geeze.)

I went to see Practical Magic on Friday, and enjoyed it well enough. Pleasant fluff. Most of the good lines were in the previews, however. Today, after telling Wowbagger at lunch that I really wasn't interested in vampire or horror films, I went to see Beloved. If you've seen it, you will note that I spoke too soon. It took a while to get into it: at first it was like watching a foreign film, since the culture was so different. I didn't understand at first what was going on, then noted the haunted house. Hmmm. It got weirder, but I think I liked it. Very well done. It was nice to recognize young Sethe as Rebecca Washington in The Practice. I really like her. The actress who played Beloved is fantastic. It's called a "thinking person's movie" in the IMDB reviews, and they also suggest reading the book first. I do want to read it now. Wow.

I got our tickets for STOMP! in December. I'm really looking forward to this.

Sunday, after Rich did his Knights of Columbus thing of passing out Tootsie Rolls, we went to the Gateway stores grand opening. They had a couple of month-old Holstein calves outside. Then last night, since I saw the marquee announcing Tower Books grand opening, we went over there. We were turned away at the door. That's kind of embarrassing. Actually, silly as it is, my feelings were a little hurt. I don't mind them having a private party, but then they shouldn't have advertised. I called when I got home and complained. I'd have liked an apology, but all I got was a snippy clerk saying the party was for the "people who made it possible." Excuse me? I buy enough books there to have built a wing all by myself. I told her I wouldn't be going in there for awhile. I can get my books from Amazon.com and my NYTimes from Borders. Hmm. I wanted an apology and didn't get it. Do you suppose I should sue for $2 million?

A journaller mentioned Target's Hallowe'en Legos, so I went and got a set when I picked up my pictures. And I'm now off to play with them.
