October 3: Rich Celebrates my Birthday

Warning: page contains unwarranted griping! I'm healthy, have a husband who cares for me and a pretty darn nice family, a roof over my head and enough money for a decent lifestyle. I woke up today old and fat, with not enough sleep, and in a vile mood, and Rich did try to lighten it up despite the gripes I'm about to unleash. I wouldn't let him, preferring to wallow in my misery. There are times one just doesn't want to count blessings, y'know? No fair running a parade through my rain!

So far 54 sucks.

We got up early because Rich wanted to go to the Davis Arburetum plant sale. I'm still sulking over the plant booth, and have too many plants, so I wasn't really interested, but off we went. I looked at the carnivorous plants, but we kill them, so I wasn't getting any, and I looked at a iceburg milkweed, but I can't convince Rich to plant the milkweed seeds we already have, so I didn't get that. Rich found a cactus with a pink flower, and we left. Fifteen minutes. Boy, THAT was fun.

Then we went to a used computer sale. No working laptop.

Then we came home and Rich took Antenna to the vet to be euthanized. See what I mean? 54 sucks!

Rich then watched football. Ick. Then he played in the garden and I sorted papers and watched the tapes from September 16th. He came in to ask if cucumbers would go with dinner, and I explained I wasn't cooking. He made a nice cuke-and-pepper salad, which he ate 3/4 of. (He misunderstood when I told him not to bring me some. I was going to finish my soup and then have more salad. Ha.)

For the perfect ending to the day, we went to the Holy Bowl football game between Jesuit and Christian Brothers. First, though, we saw the Cubs get clobbered.
The one high spot of the game was before it began when a helicopter landed on the field, bringing the game ball and a CB alumnus, who is the sportscaster for channel 10. When the game started, it was a blowout. We returned the kickoff for a touchdown, then a minute later recovered a fumble for another TD, and it didn't get any more interesting after that. The quarter scores were 28-0, 42-0, 56-0. They did finally score in the last minute, so it was 56-6. It could have been worse, I suppose. We could have lost. But it was definitely boring.

Roni is giving me whalewatching. Monica gave me the bat-globe. Roni also called again today to wish me a happy day, and Vince called yesterday. Monica and Mark are in Orlando, and sent this from Epcot. (It looks a bit like Mark is planning to flip the Earth like a frisbee!) Bernadette called while we were out, and the Curmudgeon left a nice book about hot-blooded dinosaurs that threatens to cheer me up, if I let it.

I got greetings from:
