Look at this! It's a scorecard from an August
1966 Pittsburgh - NY Mets game. Pittsburgh won 2-1. I got to see Roberto Clemente (double,
two fly-outs, strike-out), Bill Mazerowski and Willie Stargell. Anyway, look at these prices,
and what they were selling! There are pages and pages of tobacco ads, and also some beer
ads. I also found the 1968 Yosemite Road Guide. (This is what happens when you never throw
anything away.) Bernadette and I were especially fascinated with that: the roads had just been
turned into one-way roads, so there was a rubber-stamp message at the beginning of the guide
to start at the back and look at the markers backwards.
What I really hope to find one day is the 1965 Disneyland map!
Grumble. My pitcher plant was doing fine till we decided to "improve" its home. Now it's
dead. The parsley hasn't done well in the heat, either, and died. I didn't realize it was
POSSIBLE to kill parsley! On the other hand, a couple of the bromeliads are blooming.
I refilled the hummingbird feeder, but the other birds are on their own the next two weeks.
I printed up my round robin letter. I am always so relieved that the printer does work, as advertised, through the scanner. It's so unusual to have Plug-n-Play actually do that. The hardest part is carrying the printer into the kitchen.
Millions and millions of plums. I made cobbler, we gave lots away, and we're taking a couple of bags for Vince and my sister. The tree looks like no one has picked any.
Bernadette's friend got the flu, so was unable to go to "7 Brides for 7 Brothers" tonight, so I got to go after all. It was wonderful! The dancing was so good they got a standing ovation in the middle of the play. Such energy! We were closer to the stage than usual and could see the sweat flying. At intermission Bernadette struck up a conversation with a tiny old lady who teaches drama at the other girls' high school. Then we saw a family we've known for 15 years: the daughter, who was in Bernadette's class in elementary school, is a very talented actress and dancer, and I've been looking for her at Music Circus this summer. It turns out that this summer she has been in summer stock in Wichita. After the play, Bernadette saw a high school friend. It's different going on Mondays.
The living room is full of this stuff. How it's all getting into the van, I don't know.
