I started today on a hunt for some treasures that I knew were SOMEWHERE in this house, but where? In the back room, I found the Christmas books, at least some of them. I was especially looking for RUDOLPH and for my Everett Shinn (1942) NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS. After I located them, I was feeling especially brave and decided to tackle once more the search for my missing box of clothing. I've really been missing the turtlenecks. In the end, it was simple, a big box in Vince's room I had entirely ignored.
Rich went to help with Sharing God's Bounty. I had told Sam's family about it, and they went. They ended up serving 1250 meals, (no seconds this time) and Santa gave out presents to all the kids and socks to the grownups and there was stuff left over. (Loretto High collects the goodies, and they go all out.
Meanwhile, I stepped out to see the fire engine go past. I was kind of hoping it was the Santa wagon, but instead it was a paramedic call down the street. He hadn't hit the siren, but all the neighbors came out anyway. This gave me a beautiful view of the rising full moon. Wow.
Then we went to see Galaxy Quest. They took every single one of the cliches about Trek and Trekkers and turned it into a Very Funny Movie. I don't normally like Susan Sarandon much, but she threw herself into the "communications specialist" role with verve, and was exceeding funny. Tim Allen actually does pathos creditably. I liked the engineer. But my heart belongs, of course, to the frustrated Shakespearean actor in the pseudo-Klingon/Vorlon role, Alan Rickman. He could roll his eyes and everyone in the theater cracked up. I really enjoyed the movie and hope it does well.
When we got back, it seems Rich was sad about not seeing the Hubble (but it's so low on the horizon I'm not sure we can) and hadn't noticed the moon(!) We dragged him out to the backyard to admire Luna in all her glory. It was light enough out there to read by.
Then I, uh, finished Snood. OK, OK, I'm weak, I admit it. My final score was 359385. Now I really don't need to play till after Christmas!

Maureen Dowd talks
about the big gift from
Neiman-Marcus this year, the Clintons. I can't find out if this is the actual his-and-her gift or
not, but it's a funny column.
