December 5: The Cats are Trying to Kill Us

Once again, the cats turned off the freezer switch (they don't knock out the plug, which I'd understand, but they actually turn it off. I don't even know HOW they do this. I have to get a broom handle to turn it back on.) This time I caught it before it was totally defrosted.

It would seem the ISP has bad kitties of its own. This is the second time this week I've tried to get on and failed. Of course, now I'm off Netcom/Mindspring, so I have no backup system. Whine!

I'm not too sure what they accomplish if we're dead, except no one to yell at them for getting on the table. No one will feed them, did they think of that? Of course, they can then finish off my Christmas cactus and the jade plants, so maybe they prefer that to Meow Mix. No one will dislodge them from laps or throw them out of chairs. But who'll get their icecubes?

Besides, I got them some new toys, hopefully to distract them from the plants. Ha. There's a bobbly thing with feathers on top and a jingle ball inside. That was good for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, I'd brought Sailor a rawhide "candy cane" which he snarfed down in about the same length of time.

Today we got home from Church and discovered the cats broke a casserole dish lid. This would only kill me if I walked out here barefoot. Not good for them, though!

The cats were eager to help me string popcorn. I kept throwing them off my lap. I got one three-foot strand done and on the tree outside. The other day we decorated it up with garlands that Bernadette had scrounged from a party some years ago. Red and blue. It really looked nice, but apparently Ma Nature didn't agree and the wind came up and darn near de-decorated it.

Meanwhile, the dog is in his spring shedding period. (Don't ask me, I guess he procrastinated.) He does lose fur twice yearly, but this resembles the getting-ready-for-summer shed. Tufts of his undercoat appear and can be lifted off, if we're lucky, or vacuumed off everything if we didn't see them.

Let's see, when my Mindspring account closed I cleaned out my old browser and winsock, and found some necessary room on my disk. I set up my .signature file for the newsmailer. I went to see Toy Story 2 and loved it. My friend suggested a slightly better ending... if Andy's Mom's name was Emily. I laughed, I cried, and I want to see it again. I won passes to see The Legend of 1900 whatever that is.

Friday night we went to the City Championship High School Football game. At halftime it was 14-7, Jesuit over Grant, and looked like being an exciting game. However, a different team came out after the break, and Grant won 43-14. Seems like the karma of the blowouts earlier in the year caught up with us.

Saturday I took Sam to a "Meet the Music" show on campus. The orchestra played "Pictures at an Exhibition" while Richard Bay's puppeteers and a dance group showed the story of Niam the Gnome. It was all black-light and florescent paint and really beautiful. Then we went to the library and continued work on the potholder for Sam's foster-person.

No weight gained nor lost this week. Monica is an enabler, since she brought that candy. No walking except to the football game, two magazines, two packages out, nothing else good either. I was really good and didn't play Snood today, so I got some work done. I probably can't play till after Christmas!
