October 4: The Feast of St. Francis

The Peace Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, Make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon;*
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

Oh, Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

This is not a manifesto for " weak-minded people", Mr. Ventura!

*Yep, this is the hardest part for me. Al, in his forum, asked what we had lost. I thought about this for a long time. I have a number of irretrievable losses, but this one, in particular, stands out.
What I've lost? The utter trust that someone I loved would never deliberately hurt me. No matter if we ever make peace, and I'm willing (usually), those nearly-9 years are gone forever, and so is the trust.

Chuck, as usual, says it best.
