October 2: A Tabby Wig With Wet White Feet

Rich complained this morning that he's getting bald. My less-than-sympathetic response was "So?"

Most cats come a-running when you run the can opener. I guess it's instinctive, a survival requirement from the wild. (Since we don't feed them canned food, I don't know why else the sound would be so appealing.) Not our Crombie, however. The magic sound for her is the ice-maker. It used to be OK to give her a cube on the floor to bat around, but lately she wants it in the water dish so she can fish for it. She really doesn't like to get her feet wet, but she really goes after the cube, and there's generally water all over the floor. She's been teaching Fitch, but he only touches the surface of the water and then recoils in horror, it's WET. Eek!

Well, what's a cat to do when you won't buy her a goldfish?

Today she curled up on the back of Rich's chair. Hence, he had a tabby wig with wet white feet.

We went to the Davis Arboretum Plant sale in the morning. I wasn't going to get anything, but then I found the carnivorous plant area. Oops. So they forced me to buy them, they did... I got two different kind of pitcher plants and a sundew. As long as I was buying, I also picked up a hummingbird plant. 'Bagger picked up a number of rosemary and lavendar plants, as though he has room for them.
He says once Rich gets the thyroid sorted out, the weight loss is good. We figure Rich is about where he was when we met 'Bagger.

In the evening we went to the Holy Bowl, the annual football match between Jesuit High School and Christian Brothers High School. I noted Hughes Stadium says "Sacramento Stadium 1928." Our freshmen lost 0-10, but JV was 20-6. Our own game was a rout. 28-0 at the first quarter. 49-7 at the half and everyone on our side was rooting for the Christian Brothers touchdown and cheered and shouted. About this time I was thinking my book wasn't going to be long enough. (I wouldn't read during an exciting game, but I hate to see a team get stomped.) 56-7 in the 3rd quarter, with the bench playing, and 63-14 final.

It took forever to get home, though we took an alternate route which helped. Sac City's parking is the pits.
