Rich is still a bit wonky, but he really likes the Seybold conference. I am less thrilled with it, as I just find I want everything I can't afford, but it's nice to get the pens and the toys and the candy.
This year there weren't as many HTMLizers, since I guess everyone has them. There were lots of printers, and I discovered the Olympus Photo-Printer (that price is the same as at Outpost.com) and began to drool. I hadn't known such a thing existed. I put in for all sorts of free digital cameras, but didn't win anything. (Which reminds me, I have to order my train prize from RailFair.) There were lots of pretties to lust after. As one of the people in the mailing list says, "Must.....have......cinema screen........G4......iBook....AAAAGGGHGHHHHH!!!" I could probably survive without the G4, since it's a more powerful 'puter than I need, but the cinema screen is gorgeous!! And I have wanted an iBook since I saw the first ad for it.
We did get lots of toys and pens and pigged out on candy. At first, there didn't seem to be much of anything but badge holders, which are useful, but one only needs a couple. Then we began to get the balls and pens and things. OK, then.
I wanted to check out the Metreon, which is right
there. We discovered that the two attractions cost money, and decided to attend
The Way Things Work (enjoy that splash page, when it's gone it's gone!) This was fun, though
I wonder if it was worth $7. We talked to a robot, then saw how it worked, and displays of
simple machines, and then viewed a 3D movie. (And got to keep the 3D glasses!) This has always
been one of my favorite books... in fact, MacCauley's books have always interested me. I have
the old version, and Rich is now reading it.
We also got to see a Wild Thing, ate at the Buckhorn (they support Loretto, and this is a branch from the Willows restaurant), and browsed the stores. The Metreon is a fun place.
Today I went to the used bookstore, and took a bag of books. I got $26 credit, and then spent $13.60. Yep, that seems to be the way it goes.

Let's see: the Sudan has an epidemic, and no pharmaceuticals to fight it, and a grudge against
us. Saddam has managed to kick out the inspectors and is making weapons with impunity. He's
probably got Chinese help with our technology, as well. But Clinton stayed in office by Wagging
the Dog, so who
cares? It's just
another Mulligan. I just worry that the rest of the country is not going to be given
the "do-again"s that he gets. 508 days.
