August 5: Meta Stuff, Navel Gazing

I've been doing a journal for three years and about three weeks, so I wanted to look at some stats. As I go along, I get wordier, that's for sure.

Three years ago we ran the dog at Stinson Beach and found sandfarthings. This is two years ago (these links are just too hard to maintain). I picked up books at the rubbage sale last Sunday, too. Then of course, there is last year.

If I had kept writing at the '96 rate, my site would be a couple of megabites, instead of just over 22M. I have 28 to play with, but I've begun to weed out pictures more than a year old to leave myself plenty of elbow room! Eventually I'll be printing out pages from last August on, so I can remove those pix as well.

*November of 1997, I started the daily entries instead of putting the whole month on one page. A good excuse for verbosity. Last November was the Pittsburgh trip. May was Bernadette's graduation (I really must write that trip up!) Then last month was all the street renaming stuff. There was a discussion on Diary-L about length of entries, and some people maintain a steady length from day to day. Mine are all over the place, a few hundred to well over a hundred thousand.

We do have the car back. I'll talk about that tomorrow.
