June 5: Fairytale Town

I took Casey to Fairytale Town today. They are having a "Puppet Festival" (actually, 4 different shows over 8 weeks) and I thought Casey could benefit from a possibly-familiar story. I also thought the child would enjoy the various places in FT. Casey was particularly struck with "Owl's House" which has a twisty slide to get down. Mostly, this child likes to climb, the higher the better. Perhaps one day Everest!

Casey hasn't talked much up till now, but today the floodgates opened. "Why can't I live with my old foster mom?" I hope I answered this one right. I told the truth, but I am afraid I didn't emphasize the "it's not your fault" part enough. "How did you find me at my new house?" I'm magic like Santa Claus, kid. Actually, I told how the social worker called and how I'd talked to the new foster mom. The fun question was when we were talking, again, about how I rode in a balloon. "You went real high?" "Yes, very very high." "Were you as high as God?"

Give the child vocabulary and permission to use it and make the child comfortable with you, and wonderful things come out! A good day.
