Mohandas k. Ghandi a Man of Faith
This is a site about Ghandi and the tremendous faith he had in humanity.  His non-violent protesting and fasting led to the unifying of Indian minorities and freedom for all of India.
Ghandi was born in Porbandar India in 1869 on October second.  He grew up in a middle class family and was not a childhood prodigy.  As a child he was shy and timid and at age 13 was married to Kasturbai.  After his fathers death he traveled to London and studied law.  In London he learnded English etiquette and solidified his desire to be vegetarian.  He passed his examinations and was called to the bar in India.  Upon his return he found that his mother had died.  He began practicing law and soon travelled to South Africa.  There he witnessed racial injustice and was beaten for his passive and unretaliatory resistance.  It was here that he decided to fight for the rights of humanity. During this time he became more self suffcent, washing his own laundry, cutting his own hair, and becoming a widwife.  He organized aid to to the victims of war and rebellion and provided medical assistance to thousands.  He began developing his practice of nonviolence, non corropuration, and fasting that came to be known as satyagraha, which means holding fast to truth.  Using this policy he won human rights in south africa and in India.  His work from 1916 to his death in 1948 was working for Indian freedom and rights.  Ghandi also worked inssesantly trying to gain religous toleration between Muslims and Hindus.  His ability to love his oppostition and fast in mourning of violence showed his respect for all life. Ghandi was a man of tremendous faith.  His love of humanity and his belief that he should work for it is the greatest example of faith I can think of.  He loved life and was committed to working toward justice for all despite racial and religous diffrences.  He was willing to go through intense suffering for his cause, spending many years in jail, being beaten, and finnaly he became a martyr for his cause.  Ghandi gave his life trying to help poeple to resolve their diffences this is the greatest testaent of faith that I know of.
