Hat U.S. Fatigue cap {Forage Cap} shall be of a finely woven, Dark blue {not navy blue} Broadcloth {usually twill} with no visible weave. Visors and chin straps shall be thin enamelled leather.Buttons shall be small eagle type. The sides of the brim shall not be curled downward in the style of modern baseball caps and brass ornamentation is discouraged. Plain unadorned head gear is strongly recommended. U.S. Issue Dress Hat or better known as the Hardee hat shall be black in color and made of medium -weight felt.with a crown about 5 3/4 inches high and a brim 3 to 3 1/4 inches wide. Civilian Hats are also acceptable as long as it is an authentic pattern and is of correct period construction.Brass ornamentation is also strongly discouraged on civilian hats aswell. Coat Federal Fatigue Blouses should be of indigo {dark blue} lightwight wool flannel material. Wool flannel shall exhibit a visible "wale" in the fabric and shall be a shade between a medium and dark blue color. Shirts Federal Issue Shirts or civilian issue shirts of correct period construction and pattern are acceptable. Trousers U.S. Amry Infantry Issue : Light blue kersey wool with a visible "wale" to the fabric. Braces {Suspenders} Canvas,drill, tapestry,embroided, crocheted,woven, or ticking suspenders are acceptable aswell as any other period correct civilian models. MAKE SURE SUSPENDERS ARE MADE OF PERIOD CORRECT MATERIAL NO ELASTIC. Socks Civilian or Federal issue socks made out of wool or cotton "preferably hand-knitted" NO ATHLETIC SOCKS Shoes U.S. Military issue bootee or also known as Jefferson brogans . Gaiters NO GAITERS WILL BE WORN! Campaigners would have mostly discarded them as unnecassary weight Canteen U.S. Issue "smoothside" canteen with jeans cloth or sky blue kersey canteen cover. Stopper may be attached with either string ,leather, or chain. Vests "not required" Military-cut vests of dark blue or light blue kersey wool with brass buttons and cotton or linen back are acceptable aswell as many period-correct styles of civilian vests. Overcoat U.S. "Foot" pattern: Light Blue Kersey wool with a five button front and a nine button cape.with standard Brass U.S. Infantry buttons. Haversack U.S. Issue Haversack painted black canvas with buckle and inner drill or muslin bag. Waistbelt Federal- issue black dyed leather waist belt with keeper and US belt buckle. No State Of New York Belt Buckles the 115th was not issued these. Cap Box Black leather cap pouch,M1850 or "shield front" with inner flap and sheepskin liner. Cartridge Box Black leather M1861 or 1857 cartridge box for 0.58 caliber muzzle loading rifles with leather sling, eagle breast plate and cartridge box plate. Knapsack Federal issue double bag knapsack or members can utilize blanket rolls {"mule collars"} in lieu of knapsacks. Blanket U.S. Issue Blankets of either brown or grey wool with woven end-stripes with the letters US sewn in the center of the blanket. Gum Blanket/ Ground Cloth should be made of rubber-coated drill or muslin material. Musket The Model 1853 .577 caliber Enfield Rifle-Musket is prefered due to the fact the 115th was issued this weapon however Model 1861 Springfields and model 1842 Springfields are also acceptable with matching Bayonets and two riveted scabbards. |
