Myrtle Potter:
Chapter Four - Nighttime Wanderer Cont.
“No!” Myrtle cried. “Don’t work with the Ministry. This person has a servant, a spy there. And here. At Hogwarts. That’s what the voice said to my sister. Please tell me that I’m dreaming.”

“Most times in the wizarding world, when things like this occur, it is very doubtful that they are just a dream. Your father came to me when he had problems like this. Believe me, they were not dreams. They were a sign. I feel, that the same thing is happening to you. What you are predicting, I do not know at this point in time.” Professor Black paused, looking extremely worried. “What you are saying about there being a spy at Hogwarts and in the Ministry is a very serious accusation. I feel that I can trust you and I will endeavour to find out whom the traitors are, but, Cornelius Fudge, the Minister for Magic is very unlikely to believe us. I am certain that you are truthful, but the Minister is very stubborn and hard to convince. I hope you understand.”

“I understand.” Myrtle said timidly. “Who would want to kill my father?”

“The first conclusion I draw is that it is your father’s arch enemy. That, however, is impossible. There is no way on earth that Lord Voldemort is back. It is inconceivable. As to who it actually is, I can give you no answer. The only thing I gather is that it is someone who was once a supporter of Voldemort. That is all I can tell you.”

Myrtle looked extremely puzzled. She opened her mouth to continue speaking, but Professor Black stopped her.

“You are wondering what is going on at the Ministry, are you not Myrtle?”

Myrtle nodded.

“I would ask you not to be too inquisitive about those matters. Your father is dealing with them. As to your dream, I will be informing your father and we will try to find the plausibility of there being another one of great, dark power out there. If anything else bothers you, if this occurs again, come to me straight away. Any time of day, night or morning. I cannot tell you that everything will be ok, but, I hope you feel safer knowing that it is now in somebody else’s hands.
I will walk you back to your common room. Whether you want to sleep or not is your choice. I cannot persuade you to rest if you don’t want to. I only ask one thing of you. Please keep this quiet. I do not, at this point in time, want the entire school in shambles over something that may not even be real. Ok?”

“Yes Professor. Can I ask one more thing before we leave?”

“Of course Myrtle.”

“How come you and my father know each other so well?”

Professor Black smiled,

“We made a decision not to tell you, but I don’t think it matters now if you know. I am Harry’s godfather. I was best friends with his parents, your grandparents, James and Lily, before they were murdered.” Professor Black stopped; the memory of her grandparents obviously pained him. “Don’t be mad at us for concealing this from you. It was for your own good. If it got out, it could cause some terrible discrepancies as to if you were actually accepted into Hogwarts. Some of the school governors believe that half-blood students should not be allowed to come to Hogwarts. This is why. Now, let us go. I am sure that you are very tired.”

Side by side, Myrtle and Professor Black began the journey back to the Gryffindor common room; careful to avoid Peeves and Jeeves whom were both making rude signs at Filch who had his back to the poltergeists.
