MEET YOUR FLORIDA STATE OFFICERS

COLONIES: Click on our FLORIDA MAYFLOWER MAP for individual colony webpages giving location, information, and colony contacts.

MEETINGS: In addition to the 3 or 4 meetings held by the individual colonies, Florida has an Annual Meeting in November. There is a formal banquet on Friday night with the business meeting on Saturday morning. All members are encouraged to attend. (see announcements below)

NEWSLETTER: The Florida State Society issues a bi-annual newsletter "The Florida Pilgrim," edited by Nancy Fodi of the Myles Standish Colony, giving state and colony news. Each colony also sends out a newsletter prior to their meetings.

SCHOLARSHIP: The Florida Society now offers an educational scholarship to a twelfth grade student who is a citizen of the United States. The applicant must have a proven ancestry to a Mayflower passenger, and the sponsoring relative must be a member of the Florida Society. An unweighted GPA of at least 3.0 and the completion of a 400-500 word essay on the Pilgrims are required.

The completed application must be submitted to Laura Brock before March 1st.

JOINING: A preliminary application is first obtained from the local colony historian. The application fee is $115.00 payable with the preliminary application, and annual dues are $30.00 payable upon election and thereafter in January. Please fill in the Proposed Application REVIEW FORM and contact the colony historian nearest you. Our Florida Mayflower map will allow you to see the webpages for colony officers.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS: Membership in the Florida Society of Mayflower Descendants includes membership in the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and a subscription to its magazine The Mayflower Quarterly. You will receive newsletters from your colony and from the State Society with the opportunity to learn more about our ancestors and to share our family heritage.

JUNIOR MEMBERS: Junior members are sponsored by an adult member of the Mayflower Society. Family members under age 18 with the same line of descent are eligible for Junior membership. This enables the Junior to become a regular member between ages 18 and 25 without payment of the application fee. The one time fee is $15.00, and the Junior member receives a certificate from the State Jr. Chairperson James W Preston james628@aol.com. Florida now has 912 Junior members. RESEARCH RESOURCES: Many of the colonies supply local libraries with the Mayflower silver books, which are published by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. The silver books contain the first five generations of most of the Mayflower passengers. Your colony historian is available to assist you in finding the necessary documentation and to fill out your application.
