THOUGHTS:
THEOLOGICAL, SPIRITUAL, AND
OTHERWISE

I am finding it easier to admit I don't have answers. That's major progress! It opens me to infinite possibilities, to The Infinite, God. All that I know is the love of God through His incarnate Son, Jesus Christ, born, lived, died, & resurrected. Beyond that, I am only learning, seeking understanding, & ultimately obtaining wisdom. ---JOURNAL

The imperative to love all persons -- friends, family, neighbors, and enemies is repeatedly commanded by Our Lord, Jesus, in the Gospel. There are no reservations or qualifications to this commandment. We are simply to love as our Heavenly Father loves without condition. ---JOURNAL

God is not concerned with who we were yesterday; but rather, He is concerned with who we are today. This is the essence of God's mercy and grace. ---JOURNAL

Our prayer lives often feel ineffective and a waste of time and energy. Our disappointment -- even doubt -- grows day after day. We redouble our efforts and still find prayer little more than an arrid and lifeless exercise. The problem: we're probably not listening. ---JOURNAL

To serve God is to be an instrument of God. It is permitting our "Godness" to have effect in the world. As I become less and He becomes more, I become a finer instrument for His use. ---JOURNAL

Each peaceable act is like a small stone which added with many other small stones makes a great wall of peace which shelters us from the storms of life. ---JOURNAL

The Christian life is by definition a life of risk-taking because Faith is the knowledge of the unseen. ---JOURNAL

Jesus, show me where I should go. Light my pathway with wisdom. Teach me how to love more. Let me follow You always with courage and faithfulness. ---JOURNAL

Good Friday without Easter is masochism; Easter without Good Friday is drunken hedonism; Good Friday consumated in Easter is our Redemption, our Salvation. ---JOURNAL

The Christian life is, at its most fundemental level, authentic. It is an authenticity which arises out of being created in the image and likeness of God and is, then, realized in the Incarnation, God became Man. Sin is, then, understood as a rejection of authenticity in our lives to even the smallest portion. Sin finds its antithesis on the Cross, the perfect expression of authenticity. ---JOURNAL

The larger church -- the Body of Christ -- is always harmed by decension and division. Smaller communities of faith -- denominations, indivudual congregations, etc. -- are equally harmed by decension and division. However, this must not be read to mean that the dia- lectical process of doctrinal development is harmful. It is not. ---JOURNAL

Justice, as we understand it from the New Testament, is by its very nature sound theo- logy. Hence, claims to justice must be defen- sible theologically and biblically. ---JOURNAL

A claim to justice finds its validity in scripture and theology. If it fails to find support therein, it is invalid on its face. ---JOURNAL

Far too often "good" causes fail and most often for the reason that they have not been adequately reasoned before, during, and after direct action. As Hallett has observed, "A cause thus withdrawn from scrutiny, no matter how holy in appearance, is always suspect. For God is not a lover of darkness -- not even when from the darkness the cry goes up more fervently, "God wills it!'" Indeed, one's opponent inevitably also claims, "God wills it!" ---JOURNAL

Too often we use Jesus Christ like a bag in which we carry our social causes. Rather, our social causes properly arise from our faith in Jesus Christ born, crucified, and risen. ---JOURNAL
