This is the CURRENT, NEW (began 3/7/03) Genetic Chart!! UPDATED 5/6/07 - Notes about R and F gene inheritances added, clarifications about dominance.

Remember that the dominance of the features goes IN ORDER, down the chart. The only VISIBLE feature will be the HIGHEST one chosen in a gene pair - so, G* will always show above g. The order in the ferilon's pairs (ie: Gg or gG) does not matter, only which gene is dominant over the other from the chart.

Genes are ALWAYS found in pairs. Each parent gives one of their genes to their offspring. The more dominant gene, the one to the higher portion of it's feature chart (G, N, B etc) will ALWAYS be the one which is visible, the one lower on the chart will ALWAYS be considered "recessive". It will not show up, visibly, but it will be passed along to the next generation!

In order to be considered "officially breedable" any Ferilon made as a Custom MUST follow the chart's features. Unusual coloration or features which don't appear here can be considered but ONLY when there aren't already a bunch of Mutations. The only exception will be with the 'Tribal Features' sets, because those may have a bunch of odd features already, PLUS their Mutations!! Remember: R! and F! mean that NO MUTATIONS WHATSOEVER will EVER show!!

RACIAL TRIBAL FEATURES None   R! Ferilon is typical in all ways, apart from other mutations

Note well! Presence of the R*, R' or R gene does not imply posession of any traits. It merely allows those traits in the r, r', r* and r! types to surface.

The presence of R! indicates that even if a r, r', r* or r! gene is present, its features will never be visible on the ferilon. Those features will carry to the next generation as any gene - one cub will get R! and the other whatever other gene is paired with it.

Minor   R* Ferilon has one slight but clear feature found on a specific Tribal Type (only 1 feature)
Major   R' Ferilon has several features that distinguish it as a member of a specific Tribe (unless combination gene shows) (2 features)
Full   R Ferilon is distinctly from a tribe that has its own set of appearances and mutations above and beyond those otherwise present (4 features)

Note that ferilons which have two of the r, r', r*, r! genes, BOTH sets of features will appear on the ferilon.

For example a ferilon with r1v*r!Y' will show both Gills and Skeletal traits. Their offspring will carry only one but not both - one will inherit f1v* and the other will get r!Y'.

Odd Tribal   r

Ferilon's Tribal features are all from the following charts (choose or roll one)

1 - Aquatic; 2 - Arboreal; 3 - Slither; 4 - Steedling

Unusual   r' Ferilon's Tribal features are from the Unusual chart
Combination   r*

Ferilon's Tribal features are strong, but come from several sources (if R* = 1 feature each chart, R' = 2 features each chart, R = 3 features each chart)

1 - Aquatic + Unusual; 2 - Aquatic + H chart; 3 - Unusual + I chart; 4 - Aquatic + I chart

Detrimental   r! Ferilon's tribal features and mutations have caused something to go wrong. They have something odd or icky about them, generally infertile. Roll on Chart below

AQUATIC No Hind Legs (Merilon) V! Ferilon's body does not have hind legs, but has a long thick tail instead - treat body fringe until middle, then tail fringe

All Aquatic Traits ALSO include "fin fringe" as g* trait and webbed feet mutations.

Aquatic Flippers V* Ferilon has large paddle like flippers instead of legs or paws, like seals
Flight Flaps V' Ferilon cannot fly out of water, but has large manta-ray like 'wings' with the same fringe as leg markings
Skin Adaptation   V Skin and fur of Ferilon are adapted to underwater or sea use, skin is thick with no hair but markings, as a dolphin's, with blubber below
Feelers v Ferilon has long catfish-like 'feelers' coming off jaw or muzzle in addition to other fringe
Dorsal Fin v' Ferilon has a large triangular fin on its back, as a dolphin, whale or shark (for balance in water)
Gills v* Ferilon is incapable of breathing air above water, but has a set of gills below its jaw on neck
Tentacle Legs (squidilon) v! Ferilon has no legs, instead has long squid or octopus like tentacles with suckers (four, mutations add pairs)

ARBOREAL Feather Wing Forelimbs (airlion) AI! Ferilon has feathery wings in place of their normal front legs. These have the same properties as normal wings, but are positioned slightly more to the front.
All Arboreal ferilons ALSO show the feature Feather Fringe as per g* feature. They may be classified as smaller than normal Ferilons. Taloned Feet AI* Ferilon's limbs are all furless (except for fringe) and have birdlike 'scales', 'claws' and might point 2 forward/2 back (like an owl)
Avian Wings Plus AI' Ferilon has feathered wings as well as their forelimbs being feathered. Forelimbs may have 'thumbs' or even 'digits' similar to archaeopteryx
Bird-like Tail AI Ferilon's tail is purely feathers, and can be of any style bird (lyre, roadrunner, peacock, etc), this feature will only show if passed on through R gene, otherwise normal gene shows
Bird-like Head ai Ferilon's head and neck are shaped as though they are a bird - shorter neck, rounder head, and beak appropriate to a type of bird
Wattles ai' Ferilon has fleshy Wattles dangling from over muzzle and around head/neck, usually in Fringe color
Frill Feathers ai* Ferilon's head and neck has a large crest of feathers similar to cockatoo or peacock
Long Necked Bird ai! Ferilon's head and neck are similar to ostrich, emu, swan or other such long-necked bird, with large eyes and short muzzle (if muzzle showing, usually beak)

SLITHER Herp Body   RE!

Ferilon's body is shaped differently than normal.

1 - Low legs, as a crocodile with flat feet; 2 - Constrictor, a very long strongly muscled body (with legs); 3 - Legless, as a snake; 4 - Raptor, tall hind legs with small front, almost bipedal

All Slither Ferilons ALSO show g' Scaley skin or g* armor/scale and sometimes T dragon tail feature. Lizardy Feet   RE*

Feet are shaped more like a lizard or other type of herp.

1 - Flat Clawed, as a crocodile or turtle; 2 - Gecko, with wide round pads and the ability to cling; 3 - Raptor Clawed, with one large and several small claws; 4 - Lizardtoes, typical of iguana and other small lizards with obvious small claws on long toes

Herp Tails   RE'

Ferilon's tail is reptilian in nature, and may fall off to be replaced. Tail feature overrides visual feature, but normal gene inherits.

1 - Flat croc tail, excellent for swimming and ruddering; 2 - Prehensile, as a chameleon to cling to branches; 3 - Gila-tail, a large lumpy bulbous end to a thick stumpy tail; 4 - Rattle tail, as a rattlesnake has, grows for every year

Herp Heads   RE

Ferilon's head and neck area are very different from a typical mammal. All head mutations indicate the lack of ears (though they can hear) and flat, open nostrils.

1 - Alligator Snout, a short stubby very toothy snout; 2 - Crocodile Snout, a long slender jagged-tooth snout; 3 - Widemouth, as a frog, only with scales; 4 - Ridged head plate, a smooth dinosaurish 'hoodscoop'; 5 - Triceratops, two heavy horns over eyes, one forward on nose, and a flat dish on skull; 6 - Turtle neck, short neck with heavy wrinkles along sides, may retract?; 7 - Neck Frills, as a frilled lizard or dino coming off the sides of neck; 8 - Sail horn and fin, a long elegant internal horn from back of skull, with fin down neck

Back Additions   re

Body of Ferilon has added 'stuff'. The fringe color will often be used, but no fringe is usually visible.

1 - Turtle Shell, a typical boxy lumpy tortoise-shell which the head and legs may partially retract into; 2 - Spiny Shell, as a dinosaur with the sharp points around the edges, otherwise same as turtle; 3 - Fin Back, along whole body as Mutation; 4 - Ridge back, two short fleshy rows of ridges along back to tail, aiding with defense

Wings   re' Ferilon has no forelegs, instead their front limbs are long pteranadon-like wings capable of flight. They often fold back to walk on 'knuckle'.
Weird Herp Stuff   re*

Something downright strange, but it appears in the reptile world, so it can be on your Ferilon.

1 - High Nostril Ridge, as a dinosaur with tall nose bone, nostrils at top; 2 - Chameleon Eyes, conical shaped to the sides, and can swivel every direction; 3 - Sticky Tongue, as a chameleon zapping its small prey with heavy stickum on the end; 4 - Poison Spit, rather than fangs this Ferilon spits venom accurately fairly far to blind its victims

Chameleon Color   re! The ferilon's coloration can shift slightly depending on mood and surroundings. Cannot truly camoflage against unnatural backgrounds, but in forest, desert or jungle conditions may match both color and shadow. Also indicates mood for mating or aggression with bright color marks. Can change color up to 8 gene-steps in either direction on the chart.

STEEDLING Long, Straight Legs   ST! Ferilon's legs are all long and somewhat stiffer looking than normal, and end in hooves instead of paws
Steedling Ferilons may mix and match a lot of features, but often have E' long ears and N! line neck feature, overo/paint or pattern spots, red-brown, golden brown, white, black and other 'natural' colors. They may also be classified as larger than other Ferilons. Horse Tail/Mane   ST* Ferilon's normal features are masked by a N! type long-furred mane, and tail of long silky hairs starting at rump instead of only tuft/fringe
Horsey Head   ST' Ferilon's head is shaped as an equine, with large (grass eating only) teeth and perhaps a gap for a bit, any coloration/markings also show normally
Unimule   ST Ferilon has features typical of a unicorn, with T* type tufted tail, cloven hooves, and single horn m; also white or pale color typically
Draft Horse Type   st Ferilon's horsey features are very solid, strongly muscled, and chunky. Rounder build, long legs, and much L! fur in longer silky waves (Clydesdale or Shire type)
Pegasus   st' Ears are E' long, N! mane, horsey hooves and tail and L! feathers, but with W! feather wings; usually white or pale colors (may trade dark/goth with batwings too)
Seahorsey   st* Ferilon is a mixture of horse and merilon - a fishy tail combined with finny-fringed hooved forelegs, mane and often blaze as steed
Hippogryph   st! Ferilon has a mixture of horse and arborealon, with feather wings, eagle/raptor head, taloned forelimbs and hooved hind limbs, horsey tail, etc.

UNUSUAL Wing Forelimbs   U! Ferilon has no forelegs, but instead has a pair of wings (all W wing types supported)
These features pass on through the R gene, but can often look like F mutations. No Limbs   U* Ferilon has no limbs except tail, rather like a furry snake
Mixed Limbs U'

Ferilon has a set of oddly mismatched fore and hind limbs (either use normal/# or roll 2 times ignoring repeats)

1 - Hooves; 2 - Talons; 3 - Webbed/Fins; 4 Crabby/Spidery; 5 - Big Digger Claws; 6 - Winged/Feather; 7 - Winged/Bat; 8 - other?

Unusual Feet U

Ferilon's feet (only) are distinctly non-ferilon

1 - Froggy/Gecko; 2 - Monkey/Fingers; 3 - Single-claw/Sloth; 4 - Elephantine

Unusual Eyes u

Ferilon has queer eyes

1 - Bug/Faceted; 2 - Eyestalks/Snail; 3 - Very Large; 4 - Froggy/Bugging out

Unsual Head Features u'

Ferilon has duplicated facial features which each may have different fringe feature or coloration

1 - Eyes - either one above the other, or on some other part of the head; 2 - Ears - set behind or below the first pair; 3 - Mouths - side by side or one above the other; 4 - Two heads from one neck (with different features)

Other Animal Tribal Features   u*

Features come as a "package" - Fur texture, certain fringe, mutations and coloration. These OVERRIDE the features otherwise, but only breed true when u* may be dominant.

1 - Fox: red colors, tail full but tipped in one color, paws and muzzle/ears one color

2 - Dragon: scaley skin, batwing mutation, dragon tail, spines/fins on back

3 - Squirrel: full tail, grey-brown colors, extra long fur, plumed ears, gnawing teeth

4 - Deer: antler and hoof mutation, two colors, short tail, full neck or beard common

5 - Kangaroo: long ears, pouch mutation, Hopping Leg mutation, no tail fringe/prehensile tail?

6 - Horse: Solid hoof feet, horse tail, N! with long fringe, M!, solid or socks common ((MAY BE REPLACED))

7 - Zekiran Steed: solid hoof feet, horse tail, N! long, any pattern possible, add W!, W*, W~ (combo wings)

8 - Other Non-Ferilon animal features (as needed)

Bipedal u! Ferilon is for all intents and purposes a little upright furry person with a tail for balance. Fingers/thumbs, walking feet, plus their other mutations. (Note they are not more than 3.5 feet tall!)

DETRIMENTAL FEATURES Albino Y! All features are typical, except fur and fringe is brilliant white, eyes are pink. Damage is taken in sunlight, breeds normally, coloration is recessive so normal colors may be passed.
Vampiric   Y* Goth Ferilon... Black fur often with violet or red fringe, red eyes, fierce fangs (usually dripping with blood!), W* batwings. Breeds normally, but the coloration remains dominant for breeding purposes.
Skeletal Y' Ferilon has one or more portions of its limbs, body or tail missing and skeleton showing. This is icky, but somehow not lethal. Breeds only 75% (3 cubs instead of 4), these features are recessive.
Tattered/Moulting   Y Ferilon's fur, fringe or skin is coming off in gross clumps. This ferilon cannot be Shown (obviously, unless in a gross-you-out show) and breeds normally. Can also be bloody, icky, radioactive, burning, sloppy, etc!!
  Missing Limb/s   y

Ferilon is missing one or more limbs (features pass normally), if ferilon has wings or other limbs, include them in the fun

1 - Tail; 2 - 1 forelimb; 3 - 1 hindlimb; 4 - 1 of each or 1 leg and tail; 5 - parts of both forelimbs; 6 - tail and parts of both hindlimbs; 7 - half of all limbs including tail; 8 - ?

  Missing Head Feature y'

Ferilon is missing a major sensory organ on their head. This ferilon can breed normally.

1 - 1 eye; 2 - 1 ear; 3 - 1 ear and 1 eye; 4 - both eyes; 5 - both ears; 6 - ear and scar over eye to twist nose; 7 - both ears and extra scars; 8 - part of jaw and whatever else y'want...

  Oddly Leathery y*

Ferilon is stylishly Gothic - but on close examination the leather and possibly metal bits are part of the Ferilon!! This ferilon can breed 75% normal. Features are always in High Black and Silver, apart from their normal coloration.

1 - Wings: attached with bolts or sinew, usually ratty looking if feathered but completely cool if batwing; 2 - Head Gear: the gimp... ; 3 - Boots: stiletto heels? sure.; 4 - Straps all over: geared up and bangly, but they're natural...

  Conjoined   y!

This ferilon and one of its litter mates were born sharing organs - too many or in a bad place to remove one or separate them! Ones with two hindquarters may breed at 50%, those with only one are completely infertile and therefore cannot - ever - have offspring.

1 - Joined at side; 2 - Joined at head (!); 3 - Joined at hips (two upper bodies, 1 hind); 4 - Joined at shoulders (1 forebody - 1 head, 2 sets of rear); 5 - Joined at Back (coming off spine in 2 directions); 6 - Joined at a limb (tail, any leg)

MUTATIONS None Visible   F! No features show with this gene present

Note well! Presence of the F*, F' or F gene does not imply posession of any traits. It merely allows those traits in the f, f', f* and f! types to surface.

The presence of F! indicates that even if a f, f', f* or f! gene is present, its features will never be visible on the ferilon.

Common Mutation Shows   F* Recessive f or f' may show if complimentary gene present
Uncommon Mutations Show   F' Recessive f, f' or f* may show if complimentary gene present
All Mutations Show   F Any mutations on other genes show up - none of these imply posession of mutant genes!

When two Mutation genes (f, f', f*, f!) are paired, BOTH mutations will be visible on the Ferilon.

For example, a ferilon with f'X!f*I' will show two extra legs, and a prehensile tail. Only the feature specific to that f gene will pass to offspring (so one will be able to inherit f'X! and the other f*I', but never both on one cub).

Common Mutation   f Ferilon has one feature from a common line of mutations (W or C)
Uncommon Mutation   f' Ferilon has one feature from an uncommon line of mutation (X or I charts)
Fighting Mutations   f* Ferilon has been bred to have a "Fighting" mutation - charts H through K
